Hey, I had a drainage bulb the day off surgery and he removed it the next day at my post op appointment. It drained a good bit the night after my surgery. They wanted me to squeeze the tube and drain my stomach. My mom tried this and I about murdered her. It was the most intense, sickening pain ever. I decided that emptying the bulb and making sure it was squeezed with no air in it when I was done, to keep the vacuum going. The next day after surgery he removed it. I have a pretty big hole, about the size of a dime. Its starting to scab so I think it's healing well. As far as showering, he said all incisions are fine except for drainage whole. If it is sill leaking then cover it until you have a well developed scab. hope this helps someone!

OMG I know all about that sickening feeling of squeezing the tube. The nurse did that before I got discharged and what a feeling. Mine scabbed good after I got it out and I kept it covered with gauze and twice a day had to clean it with a q-tip and peroxide.

I had surgery on 4/5/18 and am down 9 pounds. When I started this journey I was 238, my surgery weight was 207 and now I am 198. I am finding that I NEVER get the full feeling and its probably all in my head but I seem to always be hungry (even while eating). I am on pureed foods now and was told I can have mashed potatoes but I can not tolerate them. Last night I had 2 ounces of tuna and for once since surgery I felt satisfied. Good luck with your upcoming surgeries!

Hello, I was curious because I’m starving lol. I was sleeved on the 7th of April I’m still on liquids. It’s horrible how did you manage?

I want to know as well. When do people start getting the full feeling? I had surgery on 4/11. I'm not having much trouble with he liquid diet or getting enough Water down. What I am having trouble with is my brain hunger. I wanted to know will I get the full feeling while I'm on my liquid diet? Or will that happen when I start soft foods? (Which is in a week). Also, my brain wants taco bell so bad I could cry. I mean seriously... I wasn't much of a fan of it before surgery. What is going on??

I had my surgery today. So far so good. Been up to use the restroom and walk a couple of times now. Had some gas pain, but nothing terrible. My stomach is a little sore, like from doing crunches , but not so bad I can take it

Everything went well. I did not have a hiatal hernia, so I was lucky in that regard.

Hi, my surgery is tomorrow. I’m curious about the drainage bulbs people keep mentioning. My surgeon did not say anything about this. Is this something I should expect?

I think they are rare. I did not have any.

Hey! I actually feel great! Today is exactly three weeks since surgery. I am down a total of 35 pounds since me pre surgery diet. I have not lost anything in over a week. I think my body is trying to catch up. But psychically I feel amazing. Just mentally trying to figure out what to eat, how much to eat, when to eat and make sure I get my Water in. It’s been hard, but still so happy I did it. ;) how are you feeling?

Hi all- had my sleeve surgery 4/11, went home from hospital 4/13. Had a ton of gas. It has gotten a bit better, but still tons of burping and gas. Not reaching my liquid/protein goals but getting closer each day! Was able to drive and go to the store today and have my 1 week post op appt tomorrow.

Id love to message and connect with anyone around the same surgery date. If anyone is interested please message me! Following the threads is hard to keep up with sometimes and not as personal.

Side note: I lost around 10lbs on my pre op diet and cheated multiple times with small things and one big meal. Not advising this but I was dying and I know people have questions about it. My liver and surgery were fine :)

Hope everyone else else is doing well!!

I can relate to wanting to eat random things from head hunger and just knowing it will be better than freaking liquids. I’m sure that’s a big part of it. Just be patient with yourself :) I had surgery 4/11 too and idk about the full feeling thing because I feel like it’s hard to explain. I just feel a ton of movement and gas and get scared it will come up or something so I just stop. But I’m not doing well at getting all my liquids in so I’m a little different than what you’re sharing.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
