Am I allowed soft foods yet?

Recommended Posts

Sleeved on 3/1. Clear Liquids 3/2. Doctor approved me for full liquids 3/5. I don't see him again until 4/9, but he said I'd be on soft foods before my appointment. He also said to start soft foods sometime this week but my memory is failing me (I really need to start writing these things down). My paperwork says Week 1 clear liquids, weeks 2 & 3 full liquids. Weeks 4 through 6 soft foods. When would I start soft foods? I've been on full liquids for two full weeks, which to me is week 2 & 3, since he released me to full liquids early. But then my paperwork says about soft foods "This stage represents the changes that you will be making in your eating habits on a permanent basis. It begins the 5th week after surgery...". So, I'm thoroughly confused.

I called my doctors office twice yesterday, and emailed, for something else, but I haven't received a response back yet. I'm just wondering what the norm is and how this all gets interpretted. I'm not gonna start until I get additional information, but just wondering what everyone else's take is.

Theoretically by the numbers, you would begin softs very slowly starting Week 5 on March 29 and progressing with 1 new food per day. But it wouldn't hurt to call his office and talk to the nurse or your RD. My RD said I could call her anytime.

There is no norm, as programs vary all over the map, but by your doc's schedule, you would start tomorrow, the start of week 4. On our doc's program, we were allowed and served soft foods in the hospital if we could tolerate them, the general rule being to try new foods one at a time to test for tolerance - if it worked, great, if not, try it again in a couple of weeks. And, if something doesn't agree with you, it doesn't necessarily mean that all soft foods are off for you, as it may just be that particular item. For instance, some people have trouble handling eggs in any form for many months, though most don't have that particular issue; others can't handle lettuce or something else for months - YMMV

I was cleared for soft foods starting today - at exactly three weeks post op. I was sleeved a day before you on 2/28. I have had no problems eating anything. Unfortunately! LOL I am starting to eat tuna salad, egg salad and scrambled eggs in addition to my Protein Shakes, and Soups. I'm really sick of yogurt right now. Ugh. Trying to figure out what else I should/can eat.

@logicwand how are you doing so far? Are you getting in your Protein? Water? How many calories are you consuming a day? How's your energy level? Have you started exercise??

This is really bad but I haven’t been counting calories. It’s probably anywhere between 400 and 600. I’m getting at least 60g of Protein but have a harder time reaching 64oz of Water so I have to really push myself. I’m walking my dogs about a mile each day. Nothing too strenuous yet!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
