I'll confess, I am not currently logging although I have the My Fitness pal app. Why?, to be honest I have been pummled and jerked around on this journey that I almost felt like it didn't matter anymore. Once it really picks up speed, I meet the surgeon and the immediate staff personally, all I've met so far besides the seminar presenters is the receptionists at the front desk. I've looked over the pictures and bio of the 2 surgeons, I know which one I would prefer, but honestly,I'd take either one. I'll tell you guys later if I Got my choice,okay?

I just want a conclusion to this all, I started in August 2015 to seek this, I feel like I've wasted my valuable time tilting at windmills when I should have had my surgery and done. Hey hang with me, they say it ain't over until the fat lady sings.[emoji351] Well I'm not through yodeling yet![emoji354][emoji14]

Did you get an appt. with either surgeon yet? What's your plan looking like now? You're aka kakatlady right?

Amen Creekimp13.I luv reading everyone’s stories,experiences,& advice.i take it all in & take what is gonna b useful & wk for me.This world would b a boring place if we all were the same.Despite me being overweight part of my life or up & dwn on the scale, i always tell everyone who may b down about themselves ,there is only one of u,remember that,u are unique & special.its important to get healthy,its nice to look good in your clothes,b able to do all the things u havent been able to do for awhile,but dont forget who u are & whats on the inside either.

Yep logicwand, B.P.and I had trouble with me signing in one day. After trying everything I could think,of to get back in I said,"ooh you frust8 me "and they ,let me back in good standing with a new nom de plume. Yep but I'm still doing business at the same bariatric roadstand. Some days I'm barely literate electronically but doggone if I'm still loveable as all get out.[emoji12][emoji12][emoji12]

Some of us won't touch a taboo empty calorie treat food...because it's a slippery slope that shouldn't be tempted. Some of us feel the need to master eating taboo foods in moderation to prove that we are in control and have "conquered" food.

Some of us eat 600 calories a day. Some of us eat 1200 a day.

Some of us are ok with moderately consuming alcohol. Some of us are not.

Some of us are horrified by artificial sweeteners. Some of us use them by the boatload.

And here's the really shocking part:

People in BOTH CAMPS on all of these points...have been doing really well.

How cool is that?

The more I listen to all the different stories, the more convinced I am that there are a LOT of ways up this mountain. (Also cool!)

Here's another interesting question...

What's success?

For some folks, success is having a low normal BMI, and being an athlete.

For some folks, success is fitting a certain size, looking a certain way, feeling attractive, getting perfect plastics and looking like a model at the end.

For some folks, success is hitting some other goal. Being able to fit in an airplane seat, Being able to play with kids and be active.

For some folks, success is getting diabetes and blood pressure and other health concerns under control.

For some folks, success is weighing under 200 pounds and not sweating it much beyond that.

For some folks, success is being mobile, being independent, going back to work, and being able to take care of themselves.

There are a lot of different versions of what success looks like. And not everyone's gonna want the same thing.

What your group of doctors says....I guarantee you....will not be anything like what another group of doctors says.

There are no hard fast answers about what works and what doesn't. What we've got...are a lot of valuable personal experiences with a LOT of different programs.

All worth sharing.

But no one has THE answer for everyone:)

Sometimes I hear....but what about the newbies? Don't we owe it to them to set a good example?

No, we really don't. We owe them our honesty. And we owe them the credit they deserve...to do their homework, read a LOT of stuff, consider all the various opinions about everything.... and figure out what they believe and what works for them:)

Here Here! Great post. I think success is just simply getting healthier. I think our definitions of success change over time as we reach personal goals. Right now, success is simply no more Metformin, Victoza, and Lantus Insulin. Those three meds made daily life rather unpleasant.

Since you are discussing answers you 2, a trivia one. Canada is no longer minting pennies. They decided a while back it was no longer economically feasible. So there you no longer have .02 cents worth, have to round up to .05, which are magnetic while US ones are not. They have so much nickel in the Precambrian Shield they can afford to place enough in coinage. And nickel like most ferrous metals is magnetic. So see on that subject I DO have the ANSWER! Pffft![emoji21]

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
