Insomnia cause - B vitamins?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced insomnia from Vitamins, particularly B vitamins?

I am wondering because I have developed this wakefulness at 3:30AM for this past week and I also started taking my B Vitamin and my second multi then too (I was neglecting my second dose, I know slap me) in the afternoon. Whatever it is it's damned annoying!!!

I will say that B Vitamins are considered our "energy vitamins". Personally, I won't take them after 2pm in the afternoon or I will be roping sheep all night long. LOL. Those buggers are quick, too! :D

Weight loss, extra ketones from super low calories or super low carbs can also cause insomnia (or contribute) by disrupting circadian rhythms. They discovered this when doing studies on IF and calorie restricted diets. It's more prevalent with women, but it does affect both males and females. There's a whole bunch of gyrations you take at sundown to counter it...

But I found, that if I just eat a tiny bite of Protein or some nuts (can't do that again yet), I will sleep well. :D I also take calcium/magnesium at night too.

I struggled with insomnia very randomly during my first month post op. It was torture to be wide awake and not understand why, as sleep is extremely important to me. I spoke with my Dr. about it, who gave me no real advice other than I could use melatonin and see if it helped. It didn't really. Strangely enough the insomnia left as randomly and quickly as it appeared and I am very happy to be on a regular sleep schedule. My best advice is to not fight the restlessness. Get up, fiddle with a hobby, watch something mindless or relaxing, do some laundry, take a hot bath or shower. Just keep busy until you feel sleepy and try again. Best of luck and hope you get a restful night soon.

Yah, @FluffyChix. My circadian rhythm is all kinds of messed up. I used to pretty much sleep through the night. Lately, I've been waking up 3-4x. I hope that this is temporary.

So I stopped the b Vitamin and the second multi for a couple days and we'll see what transpires. I am convinced that is the issue. I will take them earlier like fluffy said when I start them back up - likeky wednesday.

Now if this stubborn stall would go away.....

Oh gosh girl! The damn stalls from hell!!! I wish mine would too. *sob* *sob*

I take my multi #1+Ca#1 after Breakfast with my thiamine and B12. Then I take my multi#2 with lunch + Ca#2. Then take my Ca#3 with dinner. Then take my Iron at night. I used to take Ca/Mag at night and still do on the days I don't take iron. Presently I do 18mg of Iron + c every other day at night so it doesn't interfere with anything.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
