How many,Centers of Excellence are there in the USA and Csnada? Is your Bariatric plan affiliated with one? Are there many worldwide?

Not sure how many there are but, mine is one for certain. My insurance requires it and I would not have surgery at a hospital that was not a COE.

Just my 2 cents

Me either, my life means too much to me to trust it to less. I intend to have only 1 bariatric surgery in my lifetime.

OK...Bariatric Centers of Excellence are an American thing.....because they are accredited by two American organizations, one of which is the American Society of Metabolic Surgeons...the other is the Surgical Review Corporation.

To qualify, hospitals have to do 140 bariatric procedures per year, and staff has to have extra training in bariatric surgery complications, sensitivity training for bariatric patients, nutrition and post op care, and safely moving bariatric patients.

Their accreditation signifies a level of excellence in the field of bariatric medicine.

There are currently 778 Bariatric Centers of Excellence in the US.

Thanks Creekiimp, I sure didn't know we had so many, gratifying to know we have the best of the best. Saw on a posting Bill,Yanez was bragging his boss Dr I got another award. At least,1 posting where he isn't pushing,his people forward like a proud stage mama.

So 7 years ago my friend had RNY at a Center of Excellence. 1.5 years later his surgeon lost his accreditation and so did the hospital. I think it's more about looking up malpractice cases for your surgeon and hospital. I'm going with a research hospital, affiliated with a medical school so they are pretty cutting edge with most things.

Makes sense.
