Rate of loss Pre vs. Post Op

Recommended Posts

I started this journey in August... At my September appointment I weighed my HW at a svelte 429. In late October I kicked it into high gear.

Tomorrow is my RnY surgery. At last check, two days ago, I was at 368.

So we are talking 20ish lbs/month currently.

After surgery what rates of loss where you guys experiencing?

sent from an android...

The day of surgery....figure out what your excess weight is.

If you're 368 and want to be 205...your excess weight is 163 pounds.

The average first month's weight loss is about 18% of your excess body weight...or for you...about 30 pounds.

That's average. Some people lose quite a bit more, some lose less.

The first 6/7 months I was averaging about 6/7lbs per week or about 20/25lbs per month. My weight lost tapered down after about 18 months post the operations. From that point on all my loss and gains has been through diet and exercise alone.

I weighed 397 at the beginning of my six month pre-op diet program. I lost 99 pounds during those six months, weighing 298 on surgery day, which was about 3 pounds a week like clockwork the entire time. The loss was almost perfectly linear.

Post-op, I would lose 10-12 pounds in 10ish days, then stall for a couple of weeks and then repeat the process. That loss was more like a step function.

Here are some numbers for post-op:

Surgery Day: 298

1 month post-op: 276

2 months post-op: 261

3 months post-op: 245

4 months post-op: 233

5 months post-op: 227

6 months post-op: 214

7 months post-op: 204

8 months post-op: 198

9 months post-op: 194

10 months post-op: 191

11 months post-op: 187

12 months post-op: 182

Met goal of 180 pounds on October 2, 2017 (1 year and 4 days post-op)

13 months post-op: 179

14 months post-op: 175

I currently (16 months post-op on January 28) weigh 173

I hope this helps.

I started at 406 and lost 88lbs during the 6 month preop process.

Surgery day = 318

1 month post op = 292.6 (loss of 25.6)

I'll do my 2 month weigh in next Friday, but it has slowed down. I'm in the middle of my 2nd big stall. I hit about a week long stall in week 5, lost about 5lbs in week 6, and am stalling again here in week 7.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
