Body Hair

Recommended Posts

Since I've lost weight post-op I've been noticing a very significant increase in body hair -- especially on my back and shoulders. I'm starting to look like a sasquatch. I'm thinking its my endocrine system adjusting to my new weight. Wondering if anyone else is experiencing this?

Hmmmm .... The times I have lost weight before, I had an increase in body hair but not a large one. Maybe it's temporary?

Possibly your testosterone level being raised and causing you to grow hair? I know when you are heavy your estrogen levels are elevated.

Could be a good thing unless you have some Yeti in your blood line...

I'm reminded of The Simpsons episode where Homer is mistaken for Bigfoot.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. They took blood for labs on Friday -- including for a testosterone level test. Its going to be interesting to see the results.

I'd be interested in what you find out. It stands to reason that "might" be part if the reason for the growth.

There could be another reason, or rather a "co-reason"

Depending on the fit of your clothes before, if they were snug/tight, the fabric might have abraded some of your hair off and now its coming back. Dunno...just tossing out the idea.

There is definitely more hair on my legs since I have lost all of this weight. That's the only area where I have noticed a change, but it is a big change.

It might not be that you're growing more hair....it could be the illusion of that because you're shrinking and your skin surface area is reducing so what hair you have always had is closer together and looks more dense. 100 hairs in one square inch looks different than 100 hairs in two square inches.

I agree with some, it may be heighten testosterone levels, as it is stored in your fat and as you loose weight it gets dumped. Some might also experience an increased libido, when this dump occurs. Also, as your skin shrinks, your hair follicles move closer together, making your hair somewhat more dense... I feel this happened to me on you stomach/chest and my back (cue the Sasquatch image).. sadly it did not occur to my head... good luck and let us know your lab results

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
