Being debanded help! terrified!

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I am being debanded today for several reasons and problems. I need some emotional support...really bad! I am very nervous and scarred of going through surgery again. It's not the actual surgery or cutting or any of that, that scares me it's the anesthesia I am terrified to be unconsious! I have anxiety disorder and before I have taken sleeping pills and if I was too anxious I could feel myself trying to wake up from my sleep but unable to at the same time because the sleeping pill kept me asleep (horrible feeling). I am afraid if I mention my anxiety to the doctors they will think more anesthesia is needed and then I will be even more anxious thinking they might give me too much! ARGHHH I hate feeling this way right before surgery. Please any advice comfort:cry anything will help. If you have been debanded please tell me how it is.

I am sure you will be just fine, just take deep breaths and relax! Your chances of dying from anesthesia are so minute!!

And those people are typically elderly, not someone who is 23.

Think happy thoughts :)

Hi Missy,

I was debanded back in April and I too am a chicken with regard to anaesthesia. I'm happy to say, though, that the surgery itself was MUCH easier than the initial banding procedure was--I was back on my feet and ready to rock almost the next day!

Anaesthesia is scary but all you can do is try not to think about it. There are gazillions of people who are put under every day and accidents are extremely rare. You'll be fine!!!

I did mention my anxiety to my anesthesiologist proir to surgery, and that wonderful man gave me a medication called Versed that helped me relax and forget. There are other things they can do for you besides give you more anesthesia. Prayer helped too.

Yeah, they tend to give me valium right before they put me under.. the 'in between time'.. I fidget all the time anyway, but I think they take it as a nervousness.. they always make comments about me bouncing my feet...then give me the valium and I go into la-la land.

My mother is terrified of anesthesia, so much so that the last time she had surgery she grabbed the anesthesiologist and said, "Please don't let me die or I'll split hell wide open!" Well, needless to say that freaked the doctor out and when it was all said and done he said he took extra special care with her because she had scared HIM!

Please, tell your doctor about your fears and maybe they can help you by either assuring you with facts or, my personal favorite, giving you extra drugs! *hugs*

I tend to wake up during surgery, not a nice feeling. I talked to my anesthesiologist and they took care of everything. I love the "relaxing" drug that I get before surgery. I don't know what it is called, but after that what I can remember is that I didn't care anymore.

Good luck and let us know how you came through.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
