EXHAUSTED on liquid diet

Recommended Posts

I'm on day 3 of my liquid diet and so exhausted I just want to sleep all day. Which would be fine except I actually have to write a final exam tonight. :( Just sent my husband out for some diet soda. I know I'm not supposed to have caffeine but if I don't have some, there is no way I will be able to write this exam.

Were others exhausted on the liquid diet? What did you do to manage it? (Besides sleep? !) I also have to work this week...!

I don't envy you. I had "cotton mind" during my liquid diet...felt like I was thinking through a haze. Hated how I felt. What a bugger to have to do exams during it. Don't have anything helpful, just wanted to say I feel for you, and wish you the best.

Thanks. :) The timing really does suck, but it was unavoidable. I just had a diet soda, which seems to be helping me study. I'll have another before the exam tonight and hopefully that will get me through it. (I'm working on my Master's in Business Management and the exam is Financial Accounting which is the WORST class I have taken of the entire degree. I can't wait for it to be over!!)

Try hot tea or ice tea instead of soda. You are experiencing carb withdrawal and it feels a lot like having the flu. It gets a little better after day 5, day 3 is the absolute worst. This is against doctor's orders, so do with it what you may, but if this was me I would eat two ounces of tuna - especially if I had a final riding on my brain power. You are far enough away from the surgery date that it will leave your stomach in plenty of time. It's Protein.

I don't like fish but maybe I could eat a couple ounces of chicken? I'll see how I feel later. It's 2pm now, the exam is at 7:00... thanks!

Kaydo - I am also on day 3 of the pre-op liquid diet and I seem to be the exact opposite......here I am at 1:53 am wide awake! I hope you are able to overcome your fatigue.

Wow, I wish that had been my side effect (at least for a couple of days)! I think I did okay on my exam. It was challenging, and I needed almost the entire time allotted but I got through it, at least. I won't have the grade for a few days but at least it's OVER. Phew!!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
