Tennessee Lap Banders

Just want to see where in Tennessee you are from? Who is your doctor? What hospital did you have your surgery at?

ME: I live in Lebanon, TN which is about 30 miles East of Nashville. Dr Charles Morton at Baptist Hospital did my surgery.

Hi everyone... I'm from Covington,TN... close to Memphis... i had my surgery on January 29th by Dr. George Woodman... I am 21 pounds down... I got my first fill on March 13th... but i've not noticed any difference whatsoever.... glad i found this thread...

Hey Plum,

I am from Murfreesboro and I stay in Covington during the week, Job related travel. I have missed my support meetings so much since I have started this job in October. Does Dr. Woodman have a support group? I would love to find one around Covington.

Thanks,

Laura

There is a support group meeting tonight @ 6:00 pm but it is at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, TN. The meetings are held in one of the seminar rooms. I have to drive 45-50 minutes to get there... This is the second support meeting since my surgery in January. I was a bit disappointed in the last one but I am going back to see if tonight is better... Almost everyone ended up sitting on the floor due to a room scheduling conflict and many of the people there had a difficult time getting up and down... the rest stood for the entire meeting... I hope this info helps you... plum:thumbup:

I was there for the support meeting tonight! The one where no one showed up to lead it! Ugh! :tongue_smilie: I haven't been banded yet, but I am starting the process with Dr.Woodman. I've been to his seminar, and I have my first office appointment next Thursday (I've heard it's mostly just watching some video). Anyways, I'm going to try to go to next month's support group meeting too, but I sure hope someone shows up to lead it!

I was there also... where were you sitting ??? it ended up being OK but I drove over an hour to get there... so i was a little discouraged about it... but i did like going around the room, meeting everyone, and hearing how they were doing... I got my band in January and i went to my first support group meeting in February... it was disappointing also... we were in a room with very few chairs... you either sat on the floor or stood... i wish i could go to the Kelley's Kitchen tomorrow but i can't... i left my email address with... geezzz...I can't remember her name... guess i better go back and meet everyone again... Good Luck on your meeting with Dr. Woodman... He has been nothing but nice to me... but from the way everyone talks... well you were there... it just makes me want to do what he tells me and that way I won't have to worry about the other... thanks for emailing me... plum

If you were facing the board in the front of the room, I was sitting on the right row, second table from the back. My best friend was on my right. She got banded by Dr.Woodman in February, and has already lost 32 lbs. But she exercises like a maniac- every day for an hour or more. I sure hope I'm as motivated as she is once I am banded.

Hey Laura,

I have had a great experience with Dr Eckles and his staff. Good luck to you also!!

hello everybody,

well, my 2nd appt was wednesday, 26th...i got to meet the surgeon, Dr. Hodge. the only reason he met with me was to tell me i have a gallstone and have to have my gallbladder removed...i really did not want to hear that...he gave me the choice of doing it before or during the banding...i chose to do it separately just to minimze the risk for infection. so i have to do EGD may 2nd and gallbladder may 16th....now i have another problem...i just got a summons for jury duty!!!!!! i am freaking out a little cause i am worried that they won't excuse me and it will interfere with my surgical procedures or my support group meetings...not to mention all the time i am already going to have to miss from work...my insurance requires these support meetings and weigh ins for 6 months before i can be approved....i sent an email to the jury people about all of the circumstances but have heard nothing back yet....freakin out a little bit...thanks for letting me vent, nay

Hi hopefulmom, I was sitting in front of plum and was unfortunately late. Plum, at least you got credit for coming. It seems to be very important to Dr Woodman that everyone attends. His staff is very nice. They seem to be the ones who we see most of the time. I didn't make it to Kellsy's kitchen. Hopefully next time.:biggrin2:

you need to call and tell them you were there... but didn't get to sign the roll... i really like this support system we are starting to build.... it really helps to have someone who has been through and knows what i am talking about and how i am feeling... my family and friends are a tremendous support and encourage me constantly... but sometimes they just don't understand... thanks taz and hopefulmom... plum

We lived in Brentwood outside of Nashville for three years. Of course that was 18 years ago. We used to love it there. We also loved the Smokies. Can you believe we met through a backpacking club. Of course that was 115 pounds ago:) Tennesse has some beautiful areas. The flat lands of western Tennesse just aren't very good for hiking. I guess we could walk the levees of the rice fields.:scared2: Anyway, I am very grateful for all of you. It puts a supportive and fun twist to this.
