  1. thanks...i know everyone says do what your doctor says to do, but i do better with the way her doctor says to do...i had not lost any weight after surgery until i started doing her way this week...finally lost 2 pounds...
  2. i wish i had seen this thread before starting a new one about my port...duh... mine is high up and on the right...it sits right under my bra line and it stays sore, cause it presses the fat down onto that area...very aggravating,,, i wear a sports bra at home but can't do that out in public... also, mine feels so big...i mean i feel something under my skin in a huge area is that normal? i mean from the center its a palm size over under left breast...is that normal???????
  3. still sore...and very prominent? i was just curious do you feel your port? mine feels huge...there is a big lump under my skin, but i feel something hard but its really big, and its still sore....2 months today since surgery...is it supposed to be big? i thought it was kinda small from what i saw before surgery... and my port is high up on the right side...right under where if you wear a underwire it presses the fat down on the big plastic feeling lump, causing it to be sore...does this ever heal enough to go away or is the placement just wrong and i need to ask for port revision?
  4. i think my doctor gets the band confused with his bypass patients...he tells me to take 5 minutes between bites, and never eat more than 4 oz, and eat only 3 meals a day...no pills for 2 months... and if i feel restriction then there is something wrong, that it's a myth about restriction... my friend in mississippi says that her doctor says eat within 20 minutes so you feel full...eat every 2 to 3 hours so you can stick to the 4 oz...she could have pills right after surgery if they were small...and that if restriction is a myth...why have the surgery? what is your opinions about these 2 totally different methods? does this sound like my doc is treating me like a bypass pt(which they do a lot more than banding) or is this normal for banding? plus he only wants me to get adjustments every 2 months...i just feel that is way too long...i have had one fill and have no restriction, so i am basically dieting now....
  5. hey guys...i was supposed to have my 1st fill 11/26, the day before Thanksgiving...but the nurse forgot to call and reschedule my appt...cause my doc went out of town...so i had to reschedule for december the 10th......i am kinda glad...because i was still really sore...only slightly sore now...i got poison sumac from washing my husband's hunting clothes...still have it...that makes 6 weeks of itching...and they had me on steroid injections for 4 weeks...so i have not lost any weight, but am so thankful that i have not gained because steroids make me so hungry and usually i gain 15- 30 pounds on them...they have my sugar sky high...like 400...and they impede healing, which explains why i was still sore...so i hope to get my fill on wednesday...a little nervous, some folks say it hurts and some say it doesn't...guess i just have to wait and see...good luck to all of you that have had it and the one's waiting to have it...
  6. i am a gulper...started off sipping, but now at 3 weeks i can drink 250ml in 1 swallow, then i wait a few minutes and try to sip the rest...i dunno if i am hurting anything or not?????????????i can feel the cold go down to the bottom part of my stomach so i am guessing that i don't have any real restriction when it comes to water...but after i get a fill that may all change
  7. hey for all you folks that are eating what you want (my doc has very strict rules, like baby food thru week 3 and 4) my friend gave me same advice, she had surgery in different state...one question that i have for you guys, is what amounts are you eating? cause i cant eat as much as i did before the band, but i cant lie, i don't know what that really says, becasue i could eat "A LOT" before the band...so what is not too much after the band? i get my 1st fill day before thanksgiving, Nov. 26th...would really like to know if yall are measuring the food or eating until you're full or just satisfied...i have ate enought o cause a chest discomfort 3 times, am trying not to ever do that again...just do not want to stretch my pouch, so any feedback is appreciated...thanks
  8. hey, i need to get a therapist to help with my addiction to food...i am trying to find some kind of hobby that will distract me from food...my band is fairly new as well, banded october 16th. i have been eating stuff like broccoli cheese soup, spinach soup, chicken salad, or one of my smart one meals blended in my magic bullet. i have had 2 scrambled eggs for breakfast, or grits...but i have eaten more than the 4oz...with no problem...now i do get to a point that i have a dicomfort, or tightness in my chest if i eat way too much, and have learned not to do that...but i am terrified that eating more than the 4 oz will cause, my band to slip and cause my pouch to stretch...so i am going back to trying to only do 4 oz but more than 3 meals a day, going to try 5-6 small meals and see how that does. i have not lost anything after surgery, all before on liquid diet. my friend had this done 2 years ago, lost over 100 pounds, she says after your 3-4th fill you will do really well on weight loss and actually have restriction. she says we dont have restriction right now, but that she stuck to the 4 oz 5-6 times a day because it prepares you for when you do have restriction...so i am trying, but its hard, because i would not have had this surgery if i was good at will power, i need the restriction to prevent me from eating too much. and probably a therapist to help me as well...
  9. hey teri, i am still on restriction, but as soon as i am off...i would love to join your exercise challenge...good luck to those who can do it now...
  10. i get mine from vitalady.com where i get my flavored protein powder as well...the ones i got are $7.49 each 750ml bottles and i got the pump squirter to go with it...but they have so many flavors to choose from is why i went to her, plus our nutritionist recommended the flavored powders from there....i got eggnog for the holidays, PB, English Toffee, White Chocolate, and Praline...but there were so many to choose from...i put those in my iced coffee when i work at night, my plain flavored protein powder for a change...so many uses. plus at vitalady they sell the flavored powder in sample size so you can try it without getting stuck with the whole can in case you don't like it, also lots of flavors....and way off subject but they also sell this air freshener that is all natural made of orange oil...if you like citrus/ orange...it is really strong, and only little squirt to really smell good...
  11. congrats on fill ladies...how was yours debbie? hey terri...hope the 4th gets here soon 4 ya
  12. thanks yall, i finally got some sleep last night, and i slept in my own bed for the 1st time...probably could have sooner, but was scared hubby would accidentally roll over and throw his arm around me out of habit. and cause horrible pain...but he left last night going to illinois to bow hunt... this morning around 6:30 that pain hit me hard in my shoulder again, so i just got up and got on treadmill...helped...so thanks for the reassurance and advice....love, nay
  13. REALLY???? my doc had me terrified to take pills!!! they even told us the story aout one peron they did bypass on that died taking a pill...i have been scared to death...i didn't know if they didn't want us to swallow pills cause they could get stuck or if it was because it made the stomach churn and the stiches could come loose...yes they told us that....thanks for sharing, i was in a panic...husband leaving for illinois to deer hunt and i was thinking "oh crap".....
  14. well the coughing has been going on all day, no matter what i take...very painful...but the bad shoulder pain finally eased up, so i am not so scared...it started in my chest and moved to my shoulder....that's why it scared me....oh well better now
  15. i was told not to take pills at all for 2 months....no question....and today where i got to coughing so bad, my port was killing me, and my husband came home and had some toradol from where his tooth was pulled...i popped 2 pills before i thought about it....and still didn't think about it until i had a funny pain in my chest...then i freaked out...is there anyone who has taken pills whethr it be on purpose or accident, and it's been ok or bad? when they told me to put my pills away so i wouldn't accidentally take them, i did, but i thought who in theri right mind could forget that? me that's who...i am really nervous that i might have hurt something....any suggestions? water went down ok...felt the cold hit my belly all the way down
  16. ok guys, i know i am behind yall a little bit, but it has been 7 days since mt surgery today...i have been passing gas ok i think, no realmajor pains just normal stuff...but ;ast night, i had been having this on/off again pain in my left shoulder...i got a tickle in my throat and got to coughing, got up and took some cough meds...but i couldn't go back to sleep cause that on/off again left shoulder pain has become just unbearable...i am out of liquid lortab and the liquid tylenol doesn't touch it....is this the "gas pains" everyone has been talking about? and if it is why did it wait a week to start hurting so badly? i thought gas pains started right after surgery...i am a wuss i admit it, but this has me in tears....yall tell me waht's going on please? love, nay
  17. before the preop diet and surgery i went more than once a day. had surgery 16th, and started wondering about the fact that i have not went yet...knew about the meds causing constipation...so for my water intake, i have been mixing the citrus flavor benefiber packets in my water...i finally went today twice, no constipation, no problems, no pain...
  18. hey, my surgery was the 16th...i have a pain that starts upper middle chest, like when you swallow air when drinking something, and it radiates to the left shoulder...i don't have to drink anything for it to happen...just comes and goes...also...i notice that i get really short of breath at night...i have to prop up on pillows to catch my breath so to speak...anyone else have this problem?
  19. hey slim...you can never give TMI...hehe...:tt2:when you had your p'bing episode...was it like i have heard...slimy? or just stuck...? did it hurt? or just uncomfy? it worries me a little that there wasn't really a warning leading up to it, just a hello, here i am kinda think, ya know?
  20. i really didn't try very hard today...i increased my ounces and ate faster...have to get back in control:scared2:...i am not really that hungry yet, i think it's all in my head, it's just so hard for me to imagine that i don't want more than 4 oz. YET.... oh and thanks for the comment on the banner...i figured this way i could still be a samurai but acknowledge my october surgery... i have been lifting a dumbell and walking aroud the house, but tomorow, it's time to get on the treadmill...i dunno if it's too soon, but i am just gonna take it slow and do what i can do... i have not taken any of my meds since the surgery...my sugar is decent, and my blood pressure is actually scary low, like 79/60...and i have been on BP meds for years...but the one pill i have to get back in me is my wellbutrin, startin to get really moody.... question.:pray2:..have any of yall experienced shortness of breath when trying to lie down...i get really SOB and have to prop up at times... question:confused:...do any of yall have these, what i call esophageal spasms? i don't have to be eating or drinking but i get these spasms upper chest...it's not so bad i can't stand it, but not pleasant either.... ok, i will hush for a while...:grouphug: yall hang in there...i am trying to catch up...
  21. hey guys, i lost all my weight on the liquid diet, so they told me i probably would not lose much after surgery for a while, and i have not lost the 1st pound since surgery.... i am struggling with eating slow enough...they want me to eat every ounce over 15 minutes, and i am struggling with that...did everyone else have to do 1 oz over 15 minutes?
  22. ok, when is it normal to go? i had surgery thursday...i am on liquids, and i have been drinking the benfibre water, but nothing yet...is that normal since i am still on liquids?
  23. how many ounces did yall take in on full liquids? i am a little confused about mine...i think i am supposed to work my way up to 4 ounces which i have, and that includes my 1 oz apple juice, 2oz strained soup, and 1 oz of sf pudding....that is supposed to be for 2 weeks....was anyone else's different than that? thanks, nay after that i have to sip on 12 oz of water for 3 hours, and then i get an 8 oz protein shake over 2 hours....
  24. thanks for the input guys...i have actually been ok, but my husband decided to stay home with me instead of going out of town...surgery was 10/16...i checked my blood pressure and it was really low yesterday and today...very odd for me, feel like i could sleep standing up...did this happen to any of you...bp=80/60, and i usaully take bp meds but have not since surgery...??
  25. hey everybody...came home yesterday...i am doing fine...really sore after i sit or lay down , but as long as i am siting up straight or walking i feel fine...the gas has been flowing freely so my pains are easing up...:tt1: i had a less than great hospital experience (comical)...my swallow test was scheduled at 4 and they were going to let me go home at 8 the 16th...well i was still too asleep to do it so the doc said i could stay all night. well he had marked off my dilauded pca and just had me on the liquid lortab...i kept asking why i was the only pt that couldn't have the good stuff, and they kept saying it was because i was supposed to go home...i kept saying but i am not going home...didn't sink in...i had a travel nurse that was in her 2nd day of orientation and a cna that didn't know how to weight me...my DH had to show her how to work the bed...he just read the directions on the side...more comical than upsetting... so i really had a lot of pain the 1st day/night, but i am feeling good today. trying to walk every hour for 5-10 minutes while awake.... sipping on carnation instant breakfast no sugar added, apple juice, water, and pistachio pudding with the nuts strained out.... can yall tell me if that sounds ok, or do i need to change something on the walking or liquids? knowing that yall were here to help me thru this made it so much easier on me mentally...i really appreciate you all so much... yay!!! i am finally really a september samurai.......banded....:tongue_smilie:
