HAHA! I love that you named your new sleeve Beatrice. I need to think of a name and talk nicer to her. Cuz she is giving me fits today! I think my Protein Drink this morning was just too much lactose. I waited and waited and now that the rest of me is bloated with the lactose gas, I took a lactose pill. I'm struggling with Protein AND Water today. I usually only drink Water, but my new stomach HATES water! So I'm going to try to do a Vitamin water. I need the Vitamins anyways. I've only gotten in 28 ozs of fluids. The struggle is real

You're right. The struggle is REAL. I decided to add the water enhancers since Beatrice doesn't like plain water anymore. Maybe later that will change. Anything to get the Protein and fluids down. Good Luck and I hope you find what works best for you. This is such a learning period/curve. :784_peace:

Did anyone gain weight? I weighed myself about 5 hours after surgery and gained 5. Then today (3 days post op) I weighed myself again and still 2 lbs heavier than when I walked into surgery. What's with that?

Swelling and Water weight. I gained 5 lbs and lost 3. but I'm holding steady today. I don't foresee any weight loss until I get the swelling down.

I go on the 13th. I'm not able to do much walking now (bad knees and hip) so 6 miles in 2 days seems difficult to me. But I'm glad you were able to do that. So cool.

Honestly, it wasn't all in one shot and each loop I made was about a quarter mile which didn't even seen like that far. I think I passed three different nurses stations in that distance. Baby steps. It's not a race. Just do what you can. It is not that bad when broken up over several outings and going slow just passing people, saying hi and smiling and joking with others along the way. It makes the day go by.

IV fluids, probably. They told me not to weigh myself for a week after surgery.

I weighed NINE POUNDS more when I got home than when I got in. I'm now 3 lbs below my going in weight. So down 3 lbs overall. They told me not to weigh myself for 2 weeks. But...weighers gotta weigh weigh weigh LOL

I was sleeved 11/10/17. Day of surgery I was a little anxious but overall kept my spirits high! I woke up from surgery and had some pain but nothing a little pain meds couldn’t fix. I was up walking 2hrs after surgery and having a popsicle. I was able to come home. I was very sleepy and rested the remainder of the day and every time I had to use the restroom I tried to take small sips of Water. I also tried to stay on top of my pain meds. I’m now 4days out and feel pretty great! I’m able to drink two shakes a day and drink about 30oz of water throughout the day. I have not needed pain medicine since 2days post op. I have been very diligent about walking! I walk as often as I can and that seems to really help with gas.

Congrats and and I wish you all the best of luck!

No that is not normal. You are 7 days out and haven't walked? You should be able to walk a couple of hours after surgery and get up every hour or so during the day to do laps around your house. It helps with the pain, gas and with preventing blood clots. If I was you I would call my doctors office. Usually they have a nurse on call to answer your questions. Make sure you have someone help you walk if you haven't been up and about. Are you eating? I did not feel like walking, but the more I walked the better I felt. If I just laid down too long without getting up it really made me more weak and tired. The days I got the least amount of activity the worse I felt.

Has anyone been getting this shooting pain in your upper chest/stomach area? I've been getting it only while sleeping and the only thing that subsides it is drinking something. Then my stomach gurgles for a bit and it stops for a few hours before starting again. Last night I was up every few hours because of this pain! It's so weird! I think someone else might have mentioned this before. I do take acid reflux meds in the morning per doctors orders.

YES! Right inbetween my breasts. It's like my stomach is seizing up. We all think our stomach is the middle of our body but it's actually up higher. It does that when I've gone a long time without drinking Protein (what I call eating LOL) or liquids. Like middle of the night when you've been sleeping 5 hours. A few nights I actually got up and took some sips of Protein Drink or had some yogurt. My nurse told me not to do that. But jeez...there have been times in my life before surgery where I have been STARVING during the night and couldn't sleep till I had a yogurt or oatmeal or toast or something. I feel it's no different.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
