Pre-surgery psych clearance

Recommended Posts

Hello! This is my first post. I'm scheduled for 11/27 and have already been cleared for cardiology, this week I also have gastroenterologist and pulmonary! A lot in 1 week but they kind of are pushing me along luckily (I think)!

Anyway, I'm a bipolar patient who sees my psychiatrist every 2 weeks - but he 'doesn't do surgical clearances'. I mean not just for me, he just refuses to do them in general. So I am scheduled for a psychologist next week. I am nervous my reason for going to him will seem odd. Of course I'll explain. I'm also a suboxone patient. Worries!!!

Thanks so much mzsantiago88. I just worry since I am prescribed suboxone from a different dr he'll think it's odd. I never abused pain pills - I was prescribed them til, well, I was not. I got sick from the sudden stop and I've been on suboxone ever since. It's fine w surgeon... I just don't know how tough the psych evaluations are :/

I can only speak for my psych eval. I took a bunch of tests about different food situations. The psych then summarized a d told me what behaviors I had to focus on so I wouldt fail afterwards. It was good feedback.

Psych just asks about your home situation as it relates to accomplishing the sleeve objectives, your childhood, your work, relationship with food, alcohol, etc as it relates to the sleeve. As long as you answer that you are on medication and go to counseling and are not suicidal, not being abused, not an active alcoholic, do not have eating disorders it should be fine....

If you do have issues that need addressing - they will schedule sessions to work through them.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
