RNY November 2017

Recommended Posts

Okay my lovely November buddies how are we doing on this liquid diet, anyone else suffering with headaches?
How's everyone doing post op?
Thinking of you all and if you have any ideas how to combat this headache is me most grateful.

I’m 8 days post op and miserable. I hate the shakes, want to start purée’s. I’m having trouble getting my Water in, also the Calcium pill I ordered with my other Vitamins I can’t get down at all, since surgery and since I can’t take large sips I’m having a lot of trouble swallowing pills. Going to order some chewable ones. My husband was home today so he was able to watch my 1 and 3 year old and I took a three hour nap, guess My body needed it! The pain is better though so that’s good lol. Have you tried Tylenol for the headache and upping her Fluid intake ?

Well my November’s friend! Day 2 of liquid diet .. no headaches or any type of pain... but a very lack of sleep.. I can’t sleep, I don’t if it is because I’m nervous and I’m overly stressing the surgery.. or what. But I’m doing the shakes 5 and I try a low sodium Soup ... god just kill me.. it was HORRIBLE!!! Forget it .. I’ll do my lil salad for one meal. But no hunger .. shakes are keeping me well full.

Good luck with everybody!

I'm glad your not getting the head aches, I'm day four and the headaches are not as bad today. I tried the low sodium soup I though I'd been assaulted so disgusting.
We've got this fellow November buddies. 🤗🤗

Yes we do... [emoji847][emoji847].
Btw Are you only doing shakes and soup or your nutritionist allowed you more?

@PaulaUSN Dr. Westman (low carb doctor at Duke Univ) recommends plenty of Water, a cup of bouillon (I use Better Than Bouillon--so good!) and a teaspoon of MOM (for the magnesium) for the Keto flu/headaches. You should google him! But you are on the downhill slide of it now!! Congrats!

@Luisajfc The sleeplessness is a well-documented side effect of going super low in calories and carbs. You get pumped full of "feel good hormones" and almost a euphoria with tons of energy. It's temporary and is also kinda part of the keto flu. I drink lots of water, then take my Calcium, vit d, and MOM before bed. It helps me relax!!

Y'all are rockin' it!!

@FluffyChix thank you I'll check him out, what is Mom though, I feel I'm missing out?

@PaulaUSN MOM=milk of magnesia. I think 1 tsp has something like 425mg of easily absorbed magnesium? (And helps keep your bowels movin' without acting like a laxative.)

I'm allowed one fruit, one veg/salads and one carb. Plus 5 shakes a day. I have to drink lots of Water too, that is I drink it as lemon and ginger Decaf tea.

Morning sweet ladies. I had some distressing news yesterday. The doc office made a mistake and it looks like I'm going to have to have 6 months of my structured weight loss plan rather than the initial 90days. [emoji20] I'm fairly sad about this. It means it would be mid February at the earliest before I would have my surgery...maybe even March?
I'm so upset because I'm sitting right at 40BMI. I don't trust my co-morbidities to allow me to progress down below the 40BMI marker. So it's like I will be seesawing back and forth at this weight for another 3 months--which makes no sense to me!!! If I could maintain, and lose naturally, I wouldn't be seeking WLS!
I had seen my 2 other docs (oncologist and PCP) for 3 months preceding starting with my bariatric surgeon/RD--so we are going to see if there is any help that they will give, such as writing a letter stating that they saw me for weight related issues and diet planning. But who knows if that will count towards my other 90 days? It's doubtful, but we're trying.
So it doesn't look like I will be your Nov. bud after all. I will still be your biggest fan though!!! Congrats to all who are on the other side and are doing so great recovering!!! Hugs to all who are working hard for their big day!!! ((hugs))

Oh noooooo [emoji22] ...this sucks!

Ohhhhh so here I am thinking I’m overly stressing. I have not been taking my other vitamins.. I’ll start today!
How you doing?

Ugh. I'm on my pre-op diet 8 days in with 6 to go and I'm not doing great. I am eating low carb, definitely, but putting in Atkins Snacks and I think that's affecting me. I see some of you are doing Liquid Protein diets, and I'm thinking of switching to that. How do you all feel on those pre-op diets? What obstacles did you face and how did you deal with them? I'm not a large bariatric patient, so I don't foresee complications (hope, hope, hope), but also want to do what's best for my body.

I was allowed three shakes and three additions (yogurt, unsweetened applesauce, and fat free sugar free pudding and all the Jello I️ wanted) it was hard but I made it. It wasn’t easy but it’s doable! YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
