How are you getting your protein in?

Recommended Posts

I am so tired of the Protein Powder but without it I am only getting about 47 oz of Protein. I can't eat more than two oz of food at a time. I am tell growing discouraged because I can't seem to get all my Water in, I can only eat 2 oz of food at a time without it feeling like the food is at the top of my throat, the Multivitamin makes me sick & the list goes on.

From the sounds of it, you're post-op even though it says pre-op on the left side . . . I'm not sure how far out you are, though. What I've read again and again is that we have to keep trying with the Water, that it gets better. This is a struggle for me, too--definitely not meeting the water goals. I get my Protein from shakes--I'm supposed to be having three a day but I usually have two of the ones with 30 grams of protein so I get 60 that way.

One bit of advice I received was to eat what you can during the first two meals of the day, then have a Protein Shake if you need it for dinner to bring up the protein count. It won't last forever . . . you'll be able to eat more eventually. Maybe try some other things with protein in them--soups or protein water? Yogurt? It adds up.

I am 10 days post op I can't even finish one Protein Shake by Premier Protein in a day ! I just can't ... I'm trying n trying but I can have just few ounces at a time. How do u do it ? Do u really drink every 15 mins?

Yes I drink every 15 mins. Also I was advised to increase to 2-3 ounces as able. I try for 1/2 in the morning and half in the afternoon. As the shake gets too sweet, I made Tomato Soup with milk, it gives 5 Protein per 1/2 cup. Doing this I am up to 40gm per day. You can also buy unflavored protein to add to liquids from GNC, I have tried that yet.

Keep working on it. Let us know how you are doing.

I time and keep a running list. What kind of protein water do you like and where did you buy it?

I pretty much plan my meals with Protein only. Breakfast eggbeaters or cottage cheese or turkey sausage.......my main breakfast Proteins, albacore tuna or salmon for lunch fish or chicken thighs/legs or breast(no skin or bone) as dinner. I can rarely get veggies in a meal. I reviewed which proteins were highest and try to incorporate them in my meal times.....if I don't mert my goal ....i drink a 30g shake as a late night snack. Water started to be easier when I add Trulime or lemon to some of the water in the day and I take a 32 oz water. bottle to work and sip on that all day...I usually finish before I leave work. and then refill for the evening. Good luck.

I drink trimino Protein Water. It was 7g of protein per bottle! No calories or anything added other than Vitamins. It's been the best tasting in my opinion so far! I get mine at Amazon or Big Y/Bjs/Costco has them. Even CVS and Walgreens.

I'm almost a month post op and don't drink shakes anymore. I am hitting my protein. The key for me is to eat frequently and always pick something that has some protein.

Usually, I'll have a babybel light cheese. Only 30 calories, it's semisoft and goes down easy and has about 6grams of protein! It all adds up! :)

Wow! What is your protein goal? I'm almost 3 months out and still have to supplement with 1 shake a day. I eat high protein low carb. My goal is 80 grams per day.

65-80. I do drink at least two of the Protein Drinks (trimino) a day. And I'm able to meet my goal!

I like Protein2O Water. I order it from Walmart , I get the lemonade flavor. 15 grams of Protein per bottle. I like it on its own, but I will also make a pitcher of plain strong tea and mix it in to get a different taste, a protein Arnold Palmer! And, Walmart has free shipping over $30 and 2 cases are about $48 .

Ok. That's better. One post you said no shakes and then this post you say two drinks. I'm not sure the difference. But it does not matter, I really wanted to know how you were doing it with out supplemental Protein. But you are not.

Ty for indulging me for a sec.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
