@QueenTiff I wish I had your problem I really really need this surgery but can't afford to have this surgery bc right now I am trying to save up the money to have this surgery. I know there will be challenges that I will have to face but give it a chance. I really wish I could have this surgery so I can get to living my life instead of just here wondering the whats and ifs don't give up bc I am not going to give up if it takes me 3 more years I am still going to try and save my money to foot the bill for this surgery. I really wish you best of luck on your journey. Keep pushing and fighting!!!

When does the regret stage hit? I'm wondering if I got to skip out, I'm a month out tomorrow and don't feel any regret. I'm also dealing with incisions that have reopened and having to scrub them out while I shower with a toothbrush 🤢 I feel grossed out by it but not regret. No tears here thankfully.

I never really had regret either. I feel so bad for the folks who do. :(

It gets easier. It really does. I can eat pretty much anything, although some things don't feel great, but it isn't horrible. I do miss being able to drink large amounts of Water, but that's about all I miss.

Breathe. You got this.

Agreed, I have this 1,4L Nalgene bottle from before I had my surgery and I notice I can drink only 300-600 ml in one sitting

I have been feeling the same way I am into my third week and just started feeling better. It could be I started puréed foods. It's a long journey but it's not something we can undo so let's do the best to work through it. I also constantly feel like I will never eat my favorite foods. That is not true it will take time but we will get there and then this will just be a memory the hardest part of this journey. Like someone told me food will always be there it's not going anywhere just take your time and do the right thing and we will get there. Hang in there!!!

i have my share of issues since surgery but regret isnt one of them. Im happy with my progress so far even though its on the slow side. This has been such an eye opener for me to realize what the heck i have been doing to my body for years and not even caring. I take the time to read the labels and learn more about this process. Would I like to eat some of the things i used to? sure...do i want to go back to feeling miserable because one of those foods sent my blood sugar soaring through the roof....absolutely not. We all have to make some sacrifices now and again. bad food easy choice to bounce out of my life. One lady on this thread made a good point....its the age and maturity. Experiences play a key role if you cant learn from the bad ones then you havent grown and matured yet. It does take time...lol it took me to age 44 to finally grow up. some take longer than others but i hope those who are struggling learn quicker than me. my only regret i didnt grow up sooner

I am 5 months post -op and don't regret it at all I'm down now 77 lbs .I am not going to lie I to struggle with what to eat but if my stomach says no I wait and try again or I stoop eating it and introduce it slowly back in to see if my stomach will allow it ..I always have Water in my hand so It will remind me to drink and if I cant eat that day I drink my Protein Drink as a substitute also I go to the health food store and get pharmaceutical grade Protein and take it on the go so if I am out and about I can add it to a drink if I cant eat at the restraunt my hubby eats at there are lots of ways to get your stomach to heal and mine hurt sometimes when I eat that's why I had posted on the forum what to eat a while back and lots of helpful information was given and I took it and messed around with it and my own knowledge of how my body reacts to certain things.Trust me there are a lot of things I miss but I know one day I should be able to enjoy them again. And think of the long run of your health never give up sweetie .

You haven't ruined your life, your just going through the funeral phase.
{putting old habit to death} Eventually you will be able to enjoy going out to eat with your friends, you will just have to change the things you order {eat} no more crap you will have to eat slower and enjoy the conversation more.
You have to learn healthier eating habits.
You'll have to experiment with different foods until you find new favorite foods but you will find things that you enjoy that are healthier, give it a chance.
You will be able to incorporate some of those old foods into your new lifestyle,
{in moderation} just be careful you don't want to end up needing and weight loss surgery..Again.

Have fun with it, exploring new recipes enjoy your new lifestyle. It's not the end of the world, It's the beginning of your new lifestyle...
It takes time to mature into your new lifestyle, I'm still learning. Belief me, you might be missing that old lifestyle {Donut} right now but you with love the new you so much.
Eventually those old eating habits will be a thing of the past. You will think about that yummy bullshit food occasionally but it gets better and better..
You will not want to eat that crap food anymore, as you mature you will learn better eating habits.
You'll find yourself looking at people like why is he or she putting that bullshit food in their body..
It gets better, but try not to start point out the bad foods to your friends every time you're around them, they might resent it and dislike being around you
The health nut...
Imagine that LOL...

I have not had surgery yet but I am glad you brought up this topic. About 5 years ago or so I wanted to do WLS and I was denied but my friend went through it. She would call me bawling thinking she made the wrong decision and regretted it and blah blah blah, I mean she truly felt like it was a horrible idea at the time. I was trying hard to keep her on the bright side.

1. I never judged her for how she felt.

2. I knew that later she would feel so much better even though she was telling me DO NOT EVER DO THIS!

I am glad I got to hear her bawling her eyes out, you know why??? Because it makes me know that it is going to be ok and grieve this whole process of a life-style change. Sure, you don't want to wallow in pity day after day after day and I am sure you won't either. I imagine you want to share your feelings in a safe place (but online ends up not being a very safe place, at times). Someone mentioned "the funeral phase." RIght? It is like you have to have a freaking McDonalds burial plot. This surgery forces us to bury what we were not able to bury before (for me it will be pizza).

Ok, don't judge, but one time I wanted a baby so bad and I got pregnant with the most amazing son a woman can ever have. I remember bawling while puking my guts out during morning sickness saying, "I don't wannnnnnnt to be pregnanntttttt anymore." and my husband said "and you just COULD NOT WAIT TO HAVE ANOTHER BABY, huh." But yeah, I did not really mean it and I felt bad I ever even said that - what I really meant was "I can't wait for this phase to be over." It ended up my son was worth every day of being sick. I know you don't get an awesome son at the end of all this pain BUT you do get your health. Girl, cry all you want and regret it all you want right now...I think later you will see the light at the end of this really tough tunnel.

Thanks for being raw and feeling, hormonal, and not puking out fake rays of sunshine. This must not be easy.

Many prayers!

On Tuesday, I'll be two weeks out from the surgery and my only complaint is that it isn't MORE effective. I can't wait to get to my goal weight.

I am on week 3 post op and I feel like I made the biggest mistake in my life. I'm reading how my favorite foods is a no go and I'll never eat it in my life again. Here I am struggling to meet my goal of Protein and Water. I can't enjoy life with my friends. I'm over this sleeve people who wants to get it I tell them don't. I'm trying to find the beauty in all this but right now I feel like I ruined my life.

So let me update everyone on my life. So many responses in two weeks. I appreciate all the comments even though some people are just naive to life. Like some people on here act like it's sooo easy. If it's so easy how come you couldn't lose the weight on your own. (That's a different topic though) . I experience a lot in two weeks I lost 40 pounds in 4 weeks. Pretty great I know. Um I'll be over a month out tomorrow. Do I feel different than two weeks ago..... yes. Is this still a process for me.... yes. Do I still have regret not as much as I did originally it is getting better. I dilute a lot of drinks and found out some foods like queso still isn't my friend. I'm working on it I really do. I start my workout in another week. I chose to build myself back up by water than just go straight into the gym. So thank you all for the comments like this thread went viral. I'm glad it did because there so many people who are feeling this way but scared to admit it. I'm always glad to be a voice for people anyway I can. Again thank you all for your encouragement. Also for those of you who are still judgmental..... you all need to live life a little. Go get your nipples pierced or skinny dip or something. You don't have to be "the bitter mean/old/ person" I understand you all are giving wisdom and advice but to talk about people maturity level or say that I need to go to an institution and I'm crazy that's just kind of low.

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
