I have been really trying but I hate meat, in all forms.

Recommended Posts

I loved meat, prior to June 27, 2017. I am a really good cook also, not to toot my own horn, but I really am. I had gestational diabetes with my second pregnancy and did so good that my daughter was born at 6 lb's 3 oz and no fat around her neck. But after surgery my taste buds have changed that nothing taste good and meat is just disgusting to me. I can add sauces, chile, veggies, I gag every time and can only get around 3 bites down. I can't stand eggs or bacon for Breakfast. chicken taste like a game bird to me. Beef, it's the consistency now that grosses me out and I can taste the blood. I am 8 weeks post up and I'm at my wits end. Does this taste bud thing go away? What do I do?

I haven't tried many foods but I didn't get the taste change some of you are talking about. I take Probiotics to keep my same gut bugs, I wonder If people who don't take serious probiotics have more "taste changes" because their gut bug population has changed? No idea why the tastes change.

I can't do chicken yet because even puréed it seems too hard to swallow without fluids. It tastes ok, just the consistency, it's so hard and feathery. I bought tuna but I am afraid it will be like that too. I've had 1/4 burger on the grill with avocado oil mayo - tiny bites and the mayo helps it get down.

Your tastes will continue changing for the next year or so. But for now, just concentrate on Protein from dairy, nuts, seeds, Beans, eggs, seafood? You might have to continue using protein shakes...

Good luck!

I have been eating a lot of Beans, protein Water and cheese. eggs make me sick and I've never been a fan of seafood. I'm getting really frustrated because it seems like I can't eat anything.

My Dr. never told me about taking a pro-biotic. Do you all think that would help?

Probiotics won't hurt. And even if you never liked seafood, with your taste changes you might be surprised ;) Just make sure you try GOOD seafood that is fresh and well prepared.

Are you worried about you want to like meat again or are you concerned about getting enough Protein? If it is the later, I can reassure you that there are plenty of non-meat protein options. I haven't eaten meat in 26 years. Since being post-op, I haven't had any issues getting in protein. Yogurt, Protein Shakes, cottage cheese, tofu, soy meat alternatives, nuts and seeds. There are plenty of options. I guess if you are upset that you don't like meat and wait to again, just be patient and keep trying. Your tastes will continue to change and perhaps your love of meat will return.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
