To tell, or not to tell...family and friends

I am having a delima... I am seriously thinking about getting the lap-band. I am attending a seminar next week...My DH is supportive, but I haven't told anyone else. I am so ashamed to tell them, after telling them of every other diet I have tried and failed at. I just don't want them to judge me, however, it is hard to keep to yourself. Any thoughts from people who have been through this.

I also don't want to not tell them, just to tell them after I lose the weight, then they will think i was deceitfull

Hey there! I can tell you that when I decided to get the Lap Band I told everyone and shortly realized that it wasn't such a great idea. Even those close to you may express their disapproval. I made up my mind and no one can sway me from my decision, but I do wish that some people with live by the rule "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."

I would be careful about how you tell. I'm not saying that you should lie, it's your decision who you tell. I would never lie to anyone and if someone asked me if I am having WLS I would tell them the truth. I just shouldn't have put up a billboard (not literally) that I'm having it. Just a word to the wise! Good luck and I hope everything goes well for you!

Hi Amanda,

Thanks for the support! Why would you want to go off the phentermine? I did get the 2x15 a day and it does help with the hunger! And I don't feel sick anymore. I feel like taking more for the fact that it does help the "head" hunger. Are you taking 2x15 a day? Your surgery is soon! Get excited, soon you'll be on your way. I can't wait, although I am nervous, too. I feel like these two weeks will never end. Good Luck and thanks! Keep me posted.

Hey Barb,

For me, I've been taking phentermine for 3 months on and off. I've noticed that when I stop taking it, I get really hungry (I think more mentally than anything else) and I don't want to be that way right before surgery and on Clear Liquids. I'm actually on the 37.5 mg once daily. Good luck! :(

Hi Amanda!

Now, I do understand why you would want to let go of the meds! I know it is not healthy to be on it for a long time. I don't know how you do 37.5 1xday. WOW! I was sick, nauseus, lifeless and unable to function at 30mg. I guess everyone is different. I'm OK at 15mg. I know I rely on it, though and I'm only on my 3rd day of liquids.

Best of luck to you!! Let me know how evertthing goes.

Barb

I haven't taken any today and boy does my head hurt. I've had 1/2 of a protein shake - if that much - because they make me nauseous and I can't stand them! I've also had a few cubes of cheese for lean protein (Dr's approval of course). I can't get rid of these headaches... ugh! I almost am to the point of looking forward to the surgery pain to get rid of the headaches... j/k! :tt1:

Hi Amanda,

Today has been a hard day for me, too. I have only been having the protein drinks. I admire you for having a couple of cheese cubes. I would be afraid that I could not stop eating them if I started! Cheese has always been a really tough thing for me to stop eating. I had a splitting headache and was really nauseous and weak before and I had sugar free jello and feel better now. Try it. It does bring me back to life. I am really looking forward to my surgery in order to get rid of this stress. I know the next step will not be easy, but at least the waiting and horror of the liquids will be over. Hang in there! I'll be thinking about you. I get my surgery 5 days after you have yours. I'm glad we can communicate with each other. Hope you feel better! Barbara

I'm really considering not telling anyone except Dad Hubby and Best Friend. I too don't want anyone watching me but I also feel a little deceitful. I'll get over it though. This is for me - no one else. Time to take something back I think.
