No weight loss first week??

Recommended Posts

I had surgery a week ago and have only lost 2 lbs from day of surgery!! My doctor has me on Clear Liquids the first week and I have been perfect - getting over 60 ounces in without a problem and no cheating. I see all these posts about loosing a ton the first week and it's making me worried. Anyone who has been around for a bit care to weigh in here??

A lot of folks actually gain weight while in the hospital, due to the IV fluids and the swelling. So it's not surprising that you haven't achieved any weight loss yet. Keep your head held high- it's coming- I promise you!

I've been feeling down for the same reason...I'm 4 days post op and only 2# lost....I'm thinking maybe this might not work for me...I have been following everything exactly...my dr did have to remove a lot of scarred tissue because I had the lapband removed in 2010. I'm hoping it's just swelling delaying the loss...[emoji24][emoji24][emoji24]

Next time I lose 2# in 4 days, I'll let you know.

Surgeons ought to require patients bring their scale with them to surgery. The nurses steal them, only to be returned 15 days later.

Give it a couple weeks, guys.

And prepare yourselves now for the scale to stop moving from days 21-30, give or take.

On my one week follow-up, I had lost 4 lbs. I'd been eating maybe 500 cals a day, feeling like crap, scared of failing, etc. I was very upset. My PA was with wonderful. She said it is the fluids they pump you with in the hospital, and everything around the site being swollen.
She said to only weigh once a week, skip it when expecting period, and do not become obsessed with it; rely more on how clothes are fitting and measurements, bc weight can fluctuate so much. As long as it is going the right direction, it is good.
She also told me not to go on these sites (weight loss surgery) because everyone's journey is different, dont compare yourself to others.
Of course, here I am! But her words really helped.

My nurse had warned me before surgery that a lot of people show weight gain between 6-10 lbs the first few days after surgery. I don't think I even weighed myself til after my 2 week post op. Also I didn't even want to bend over to take out my scale. They also recommended only weighing myself once a week. After 3 weeks I stalled for about 12 days which was frustrating. But I read a lot of people on here had the same happen at the same time. I remember for about the first month I completely regretted having surgery and thought it might not work for my but I'm still chugging along. I've been losing almost exactly 2 lbs a week since my first stall. I'm down 84lbs since my highest weight. Just keep reminding yourself of all the non scale related reasons you're doing this and it will be easier to keep focus. Measurements are another great way to see progress. I suggest taking them now if you haven't taken them since beginning the process. I didn't take mine until a month after surgery and I've lost 18 inches since then.
Best of luck! It will all be worth it!

I lost only 2 or 3 pounds the first week too. And now 3 weeks out I have lost 6 pounds.

but I did measure around my arm and I was 1 inch less around. That cheered me up. And actually, I do want to lose slowly. I don't want to lose my hair or my gall bladder. Maybe I won't be buying new fall clothes but I'm thinking NEXT SUMMER I will be smaller. I'm thinking long term. I'm doing everything right except that I am still struggling with fluids and Protein now too. Eating so few calories means my metabolism has shut down.

I just had my first weigh in, exactly one week post op and I lost 5 pounds. I was starting to get down because I expected a lot more than that because of what I had heard from other people. But I've had quite a few non scale victories so I'm trying to focus on that. Plus all of these testimonials of people going through the same thing made me feel a bit better as well. So thank you all

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
