I am currently 9 days post op. I have been hungry since the day after surgery and I'm not just talking head hunger. liquids have been no problem to get down from 3 days post op forward. Just a little while ago I ate an entire cup of sugar free Jello with no issues and I still don't feel "full". I do feel satisfied though. I am just worried that I have done something wrong? I am on full liquids for 2 weeks and I have stuck to that. The only things I have had are sugar free jello and sugar free pudding.

What do you mean you feel satisfied but not full?

I can only compare it to the fullness I felt pre op. The feeling of being full (but not stuffed). The Jello will leave me satisfied for around 30 minutes then the hunger comes back. I hope that makes more sense.

Your nerves were cut in your stomach, so you can't feel everything going on. Because of this, continue going slow. Not too much at once, etc.

That hunger is probably acid. Keep up with your acid medication, and you may need more too. You should be on a ppi (once a day), and some liquid that you take a few times a day.

I am 10 days post op & understand exactly what you're saying. I can eat a SF Jello or SF popsicle with no problems. However, if I have a can of cream of chicken Soup thinned with Water of fat free milk, I am unable to finish it, but I still can get more down than I thought I'd be able to. It concerns me, as I thought I wouldn't be able to hold more that a few ounces at a time.

At 9 days postop, do NOT eat anything solid. Just be patient... restriction will come when your diet advances.

Thank you all. You have helped ease my mind. I definitely do not want to do anything to jeopardize my surgery, so I have not moved on to solids. I can start with mushies next Wednesday.

Looks like we are both in the same boat! I just tried Tomato Soup about an hour ago and only allowed myself about 2 ounces just because I was afraid that it may upset my stomach. So far so good. I still feel hungry but it was nice to try something different. I was like you, it was pounded into my head for 6 months that I just wouldn't be able to eat much of anything that it really scared me when everything was going down so easy and that I'm actually feeling hunger. Because they told me that I would not. I know everyone is different but I swear what I am feeling is not head hunger. Another poster made a good point that it may be acid, I never thought of that. I was put on Prilosec once daily that I have been taking religiously because I already had ulcers before hand.

I hoped to not feel hungry and like others " had to remind myself to eat".
Apparently, I must be part of the percentage of people who always think of food. Head hunger 24/7.
That's my struggle, and apparently always will be. But, I'm almost 3 years out and have stayed the same for a long time.

The more dense the food, the more you'll feel restriction. Liquids and soft stuff never really triggered mine, but once I was on solids, it definitely kicked in. One bit of advice...weight and measure your food, don't rely on that 'full' feeling or restriction to do Portion Control for you. Portion your food, sit down with it and eat that portion. Good luck!

I hear that, sister. That's me totally. I've been advised the head hunger is another term for "addiction", but I haven't had time to see a therapist yet (and have issues finding one my insurance will cover).

I never began to feel restriction until I started on soft solids. Also my hunger came back within a few weeks so your not alone in feeling hunger.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
