Austin, Texas area?

Recommended Posts

Hi, all. I am interested in any feedback or info on surgeons in the Austin area. I have been to a couple of informational seminars, but am hoping to learn more from actual patients before I commit to a specific surgeon or clinic.

Also, any other Austinites getting ready to get banded? :)

Laura:

I'm in Dripping Springs and work in Austin. I'm planning to get mine done by Dr. Jorge Rincon in San Antonio. If you do a search on him here and on the web, you can learn more. One of the members here shared her experiences with him and convinced me to check him out further. I've read nothing but good things about him.

Good luck!

Laura,

I'm not sure about the Doctors here in Austin but I tried to go through True Results and they were inadequate, disorganized & extremely lacking in knowledge. I'd avoid them. Marion

I'm in Oak Hill every day! And we used to live there and our kids went to Patton. I hope you find a doctor you like. Feel free to PM me. Good luck!

Lonestar, yes!! I replied in the "60s" thread, but I should have emailed you as well...I'm so sorry. Thank you so much for the reassurance. Joy has contacted my insurance company, so we are just wanting to hear what hoops I am going to have to jump through to get them to cover the surgery. (Fingers crossed) I really appreciate you taking the time to help me- how are you doing?

Kristina, I'm hoping for January at the earliest-even if my insurance co. cooperates, I can't take the time away from work until then. But can I live vicariously through you until then?

So are you going through Dr. Ganta? I just called his office today and I have a consult tomorrow! I'm so excited! I'm self-pay so I may be able to have my surgery in as little as two weeks. And it's only $12,500, plus pre-op expenses, but including a full year of after-care including free fills. If you haven't already, check out this article from the Austin Chronicle: The Austin Chronicle: Food: Enough Is Enough!: I've been a food critic for 15 years. I've been overeating all my life. Recently, I decided enough is enough!

Let's keep in touch! :)

you might want to check out Dr Nilesh Patel. I haven't met him yet, but I spoke with his office today, and he might be less expensive for self-pays, because it doesn't cost you anything if you have insurance. No idea yet if he's good but his credentials seem to be great.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
