I had the sleeve on 7/10 and I'm trying to navigate the whole eating thing. How do you determine how much you can take in? I'm on Clear Liquids through today and move to purees tomorrow. It's taken me 20 minutes to get 3oz of broth down because I'm scared of eating too much and vomiting or feeling pain. Am I being too cautious? Any advice?

Good idea about taking it slow. Better to be safe then sorry. I don't get purred foods until after July 26th....UGH

Every plan is different. My program has one of the shorter liquid stages I've seen.

Fluids move through us much faster than food. Starting day 2 or 3 I can sip about 6 oz in 20 minutes without any problems. But every body is different in what they can tolerate. I would be worried about not getting in enough fluids and want to speed it up a little.

I had surgery 7/10 My instructions were to get 64 fl oz, or greater of fluids.

I managed to get down a half of a Protein Shake, 2 Jello and a couple glasses of Water. I am sipping slow and can tell I'm not having any problems. I am not nauseated etc; It is important to get your Fluid in because the body is healing. etc.

I am walking 10 min a hour, in the house, so I won't get blood clots.

I hope this helps.

I still have quite a ways to go today to get that 64 oz in, but I'm going to do my best.

I would focus on trying to get it in, but not "speeding it up"....If you drink or eat too fast that will cause the nausea.

Hope this helps

This was the plan I was given, maybe it would help. I am tired, but everyday gets better.

Sleeved 7/6

I'm on a similar plan. I'm so ready to move past the liquid phase and get into some pureed foods!

My plan is different. 1st day was clear liquids. Second day, they brought me a Protein Shake. When I was discharged, in the doctor's instructions for me, it stated that I had to drink so much Water and 1 can of Protein shake a day. I was sleeved on 7/3. I went to my post op appointment today. The nurse practitioner told me I wasn't drinking enough Protein Shakes. She grabbed a handout that said I was supposed to be drinking 3 shakes a day. Even though I had just told her that it was hard for me to get down one. I don't know why they told me something different in the discharge papers. I get to start soft foods on Monday (2 weeks).

I am pretty much concentrating on my Protein and Water. Interesting, I gained 5 lbs after surgery. I have lost 3, still need to loose 2 more to be what I was at surgery date. I am a Low BMI, so I'm not as concerned about loosing a lot, but I pertaining don't want to gain.

This is harder then I thought. Still have pain in my stomach (like muscle cramps)

Does anyone still have those after 3 days?

I had muscle cramps that dissipated on post-op day 4. My doc said it was totally normal. As for weight gain, you are likely retaining fluids from your hospital IV. That weight will be gone in no time!

I bought hubby flavourless Protein Powder. I use it in all his puddings and he adds extra Protein in his shakes. No problem for him to get his 90gr of protein a day

Sounds like a good idea "puddings" what kind of pudding do you use.

I can get my Protein in with 2 Protein Drinks. Harder getting Water, etc in.

Yikes....getting tired of these liquids. Would absolutely love a soft boiled egg.

I am back down to my starting surgical weight. (shocker when I gained 5 lbs)

I am getting 64 gm of Protein. Then I drink all I can...I ate 4 popsicles last night.

It scares me when I read people don't go out to dinner, order a little Soup if they

do etc; I am very social and go out a lot. I managed to loose over 60lbs with the

lap band and I was going out constantly I made wiser choices, and had smaller

amounts. I plan on eating like a somewhat normal person, just smaller

portions. I hope this is true.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
