So I won the lawsuit against SLIMBAND IN TORONTO how do i collect

Recommended Posts

Hi everybody! I just heard that the best solution would be in our cases to file for a class-action lawsuit against Allergan Inc., the maker of the Lap-Band device.

Apparently Slimband and Lap-Band are two different things. The Slimband is hollow and filled with Fluid and you have a port sewn into the side of your abdomen so that you can fill or de-fill as needed to restrict or release the size of your stomach. I believe it has its own patent.

No they are the same product just two different clinic names. Dr Lau originally opened it as Toronto Lapband Clinic. Then when he was sued. Him and his partners declared bankruptcy and opened up the same clinic in the same location doing the same procedure which is the Lapband and doing fills and they called it Slimband.

Same procedure, same company just two different names. There is only one type of weight loss surgery that they do which is the Lapband.

I would also like to be involved, I am currently having problems with mine and it looks like I will have to get it removed. I have had mine for almost 5 years and had problems with it from the very beginning. There was no support and no weight loss. Slimband was the biggest mistake of my life, pain, throwing up and now it’s no longer working, I can’t wait to get it out of me.

Hello Sarah,

I couldn't agree anymore with you. I have been using slimband for 9 years and i really want get rid of it. My family doctor had sent referral gastric surgeon to remove my band which cover ohip and the surgeon had decline my referral so i felt complete hopeless. Is there anyone know any surgeon/doctor who can cover OHIP in GTA?

Hi. I am an attorney in Florida who handles class actions and defective pharmaceutical devices. Happy to help if I can.

Can you defend people in Canada? We are spread out across the country.

Yes are you able to practise in Canada? If you have experience in Class Action suits and defective medical devices that would be great. The doctor and the clinic I don't think are where we go from here. I think it is to go after the its a multiple party law suit where Slimband is part of it but the financial company which is the same partners as the clinic and governing corporate parties, and the big boys to bring to the table is the manufacture of the lapband that is causing is a complete malfunctioning device and causing massive health issues for all us that in some cases have been life threatening and incorrectable.

So definitely if your a lawyer that could spear head a class action suit here in Canada you will have a lot of plaintiffs that are more then willing to step up and provide a case for you that will be lucrative to all parties!

I can not practice in Canada. I would imagine there are plenty of plaintiffs in the United States to get started with.

I have had my band for 10 years. Been throwing up for about 6 years now. I have had complications since day 1 and just recently had to see a GI specialist. He is leaning on removing it due to severe scarred tissue I have. What a horrible life.

Sorry to hear of another botched slim band placement .
Take care of yourself . I got my band out in Dec 2019 after 5 years of having it in. I now have reflux most if not all of the time . I know compared to others this is minor but frustrating to me as it causes me to vomit most of the time after eating . Depending on the setting it is tough to take .

Hey Margaret,

Any chance you live in Toronto? Will you able pass forward your Doctor name who took out your band. I had been tireless finding doctor who can take out my band and my family doctor had tried to referred and i get rejected easily without checking or seeing my physically. It is a such sad world we live in. I've reached out to Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons and hadn't heard any response back.

Hi!

In Women's College Hospital, Toronto, Dr. David Urbach removes butchered slim bands on a daily basis!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
