Marilyn, what great news. I'll bet things start moving very quickly for you now. Bless your heart, you have been through it all, haven't you. You will remain in my prayers. I hope to hear soon that you have a date with a laproscope!

wHAT A PRECIOUS GROUP OF FOLKS i HAVE FOUND!

I took my upper G.I. films to my surgeon yesterday. He will determine if i can get the lapband done,,,due to the fact that I have had the staple procedure done and also reversed too....back in the 80's. God's hand has been on me this far and I know he will see me the rest of the journey. I want to be healthy and live to see grandbabies....Blessings to you all,,,,FROM ARKANSAS

I'm glad you are here, Mary. I've found this group to be very supportive. I'm still waiting and learning, and my LBT friends have been a wealth of information about day-to-day living with the band. I hope everything works out for you and you have your band soon.

God bless you.

Hi to all,

I saw the surgeon for the first time today. He gave me his OK for the surgery. He said I was a perfect candidate for the surgery. He told me that because I'm diabetic, I'd either be without any meds after or very little. It depends how my body will respond after the surgery. I'M SO HAPPY!! I really prayed God a lot about that and at the end I said, "Well if it's God's will, he'll open all the doors" and that's what he did. It can be for next month . . . WOW!!

That's really great news!!

I'm sure your doc is right about the diabetic meds!

That will be wonderful!

I've read that most diabetics are very quickly either off their meds, or severely reduced Rx!

I am off one cholesterol pill since surgery, strength cut in half on both of my BP meds!

It is amazing what weight loss will do.....I wasn't taking any meds prior to my surgery but I experienced such deep pain in my knees and joints. Now after 54 lbs.....I don't experience this pain anymore. As a matter of fact, I take up my bragging rights and was so proud that I hit my 3 mile run at 38.45 mins today.....my best time yet. I am aiming for 36 min - Encouragement to all.......we really can make a difference in our physical make-up if we just stick with it. "I can do all things through Christ......." YES!!

Dear Numbrgirl,

I pray that one day I'll be the one to say" I'm proud of myself because I accomplish that exercice". I'm hoping one day I'll be able to like doing exercices. I'm so happy for you. I was wondering where to get the little band you know your little frog that shows how much you lost?

Dear bandsters,

I want to thank God because He really did opened all the doors for that surgery. Four months ago, here in New-Brunswick, if you wanted a lap band surgery you had to pay 1,500.00 and the governement would of pay the other 1,500.00. That was the case when I started to look into the procedure but than I went to the diabetic clinic one day and the nurse told me that they just gave their OK to pay all the procedure. My first reaction was to say out loud " Thank you Lord, you answered my prayers" and then I looked at the nurse who was looking at me in a weird way. Then we got a new surgeon here and his speciality is the lap band surgery and the sleeve one too. The closes place to have that surgery before was in Moncton who's 2h30 from my place and it would of mean going back and forth for the check ups. Then, I met the surgeon and he told me I was a perfect candidate for the lap band surgery. He said as soon as he can have an opening for a surgery room, I'll have to go on a liquid diet for 2 weeks before then the surgery. He said I would probably have the surgery sometime in November or December. Praise our Lord and Savior. I'm sure everything is going to be fine. I just hope my skin will tight itself and I won't have to have plastic surgery but then if so, God will provide for the money because I heard it may cost up to 30,000.00 which I really don't have. Our Lord is an awsome God.

Thank you, Numbregirl It worked after trying different things. That's our Thanksgiving weekend in Canada. We were invited to my sister in law's place for supper. I did pretty well, I didn't eat to much. While I was there I was thinking, "It's going to be my last Thanksgiving the way I am now and next year, it's going to be a new me". I can't hardly believe it. It's like talking about a dream.

I can identify! My lab work is scheduled for Nov 26 - the day before our Thanksgiving. I'll be preparing the dinner this year (with help from DH, DD and DIL) and will enjoy the meal and the day with everyone. But thinking about next year will definitely be on my mind. Having everyone here will be very hard - even with the help it is a long day. Next year will be a different story. I am excited about the coming changes.

Don't worry about it! Last Thanksgiving I was 4 mos. out and we were visiting with friends for the whole week. There was food every day, in great abundance. I did just fine. You will be amazed. The thing is, you can still enjoy all that good stuff on these special occassions, just in much smaller quantities. You won't even want more than a small taste of the high calorie, rich food, because you'll want to enjoy the healthy stuff. My very favorite.... mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing... I had them all... but in small amounts. Don't be sad.... you're going to be excited to see how easy it is to discipline yourself to the smaller amounts.

Thank you Phyllser for your encouragement! My surgery date has changed from Nov. 12th to the 19th, which is a week before Thanksgiving. Figure this better, because still healing and not hungry as of yet? The Lord has His timing for our lives, so I believe it will go well for the November Bandster Babies! And, thank you for the inspiration YOU are! :smile2:

Oh Phyl, I am not the least bit sad about Thanksgiving! My surgery date is a week later, and this will be a great opportunity to both enjoy the meal and look forward to the next day when I will start my pre-op diet! a funny situation... but a lot to be thankful for as always.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
