Band=Bulimia Help?

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Ive had the band over a year now and have lost very little weight. I recently had a fill and I can hardly keep anything down. (Warning: This is about to get gross) For the last two weeks Ive been throwing up everything I eat. Its so bad that I have to eat in private (with a bag nearby) because I spit up every few bites. I know that I'm probably to tight and need to get unfilled. The thing is Ive lost about 15 pounds since that fill and I feel GREAT about it. My experience with the band has been so depressing that I was ready to give up. This is the first time ive ever saw "results" with this thing and I don't want to loose that. I'm almost willing to put up with my gross eating habits to continue the weight loss. Am I crazy?? I know this is no different then having bulimia or some other eating disorder. Even though I feel no discomfort, I know throwing up at every meal can't be healthy. What should I do

I would say if you are sipping your liquids and chewing your food til its mush before swallowing.. then yes an unfil could be the answer to this.. however I would try a SLIGHT unfil

GOOD LUCK!

Call your doctor - get a slight unfill. Even though you do not feel any discomfort you do not want to cause harm to yourself or the band by throwing up everything you eat. You are not getting enough nutrients. Hurry... right now -- call! Let us know how you make out.

I too experienced very similar problems and results. BUT because of the results i was achieving i choose to alter my eating habits to liquids for a week then slowly bringing foods back into my diet, i find that i cant eat a lot of things now that im tighter but hey im down to a size 16 which is SO worth it to me. If you have a problem drinking a Protein Shake at that time i would concider an unfil (slighly) (like .25cc) but only bc you need those nutrients. Good luck !

If you're throwing up a lot, you could risk getting a slip later on down the road and losing your band.

You are supposed to go on liquids for 24 hours after throwing up

to give your stoma a rest.

Believe me, there is a happy medium between throwing up all the time, and being able to survive on hardly any food at each meal and never being hungry. I was unhappy with my weight loss too, but right now I am at the perfect fill and it's made a huge difference.

Get a small unfill so you don't risk losing your band.

Thanks for the replies. I believe I will call my doc for a slight unfil. I'm also switching to a diet of mostly liquids and soft foods, hopefully this will help.

Hey, losing weight, huh? Well, at least you are there finally. Now that the band is working... let's get it tweaked so that you aren't vomiting all the time.

I know what you mean. I went in for a 2nd fill and did the same. Ate w/ a bag close by, but I didn't get an unfill as I knew it was temporary. And 2 weeks later... it's all fine. I lost 13 pounds in those first 4 weeks.

Good luck and keep us posted.

This is the same thing that is happening to me...I have to eat with something close by or make a beeline to the bathroom. BUT I have lost 6lbs since my fill on the 4th. I am happy to finally see the scale moving again.:whoo:

I am in the same boat, but my scale isn't drastically moving.

But I feel like a medical bulimic!! I am getting a slight unfill when I go back on the 22nd. If my scale was just racing down, I'd probably just deal with it. I didn't say that, did I?

Hey Ladies...

It scares me that the insinuation is that it is worth puking if it means weightloss. I hope I am reading this wrong and you are all just being sarcastic. Believe me, I KNOW how much it sucks when the weight just isn't coming off. I have lost about 5 pounds in the last 5 months. Slllooowwww! I don't think that turning to another eating disorder is the answer.

We all want this weight off, but let's try to be healthy about it. Check what you are eating. Maybe try logging some foods for a week or so..I love thedailyplate.com. Chew chew chew. Just try to work the rules as best you can and by all means, call your surgeon if you are puking all the time. Your body may shed pounds, but you are losing important nutrients if you are hurling up all that you eat.

I hope everything turns out okay! (((hugs)))

I am taking quickslim30 and glacial milk liquid vitamins. The quickslim helps me with the sweet cravings and the Vitamins have a lot of good stuff in them. M&M's go down too easy a lot easier than steak.

I am not puking it's more like the slimes  or PBing and I definitley don't want to do it. It just happens whether I eat the right thing and chew properly or not. It seems like instead of just staying down when I am full I PB then slimes. Maybe I am putting that extra in like when you fill the gas tank and squeeze a few more cents in and that is what is coming up.

I know what you mean. I think if you really pay attention, your body gives subtle notice that it is getting full. Many of us, myself included, are sometimes so programmed to ignore that and keep eating. I think this can take a while to get used to. Afterall, many of us have been overeating for most of our life.

I try to stop when I get those subtle feelings, but it is still a battle, the old me still wants to keep eating and enjoying, but that usually lends to me feeling stuck.

Best wishes.

Try taking baby bites every so often, like when you are washing clothes or doing dishes. I have to do that sometimes to get my band to open up a little.

Do you have any trouble getting these down? I have a bunch of pills I have to take and it's really hard to get them down.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
