Boo Boo Kitty's PS Journey

BBK,

Sorry for all the problems you are going through.

My band surgeon has the personality of a hemorrhoid, but he does amazing work. That being said, where your doc did not do amazing work plus being an A-hole, you definitely need to take this all the way.

Just my 2 cents.

That painful staple removal was downright MEAN!

I have called the nurse there and had an honest talk with her. She told me that Dr Kuzan comes across as harsh sometimes. But he sees things differently. She also told me that in most cases the Dr doing the revision does cover the cost.

I am feeling a bit better I think now that the encounter is not so fresh with him.

He made decisions while in surgery that were briefly discussed at the fist meeting with him, but it was never presented as an option. He made the decision in surgery to try it without my consent or anyone in my family. I think because he is the Head of plastic surgery at U of M I feel very intimidated. I do wish now I had gone with the woman there. But hindsight is 20/20 right?

I appreciate everyone's support here. This experience has sure been harder than I thought. But after this morning, I am feeling better. I got into a Guess dress that I never would have worn before the Tummy Tuck adn breast reduction and I can say that I have felt the best I have in 12 years. I cried in the mirror. SO all in all, I think today helped me adjust a bit.

I am still upset and will be seeking 2nd opinions but it is what it is.

As far as the interview, I am debating still. I am leaning towards a no. I am trying to pursue a pin up modeling career, and I think it could harm that. As crazy as that sounds I guess. I don't want to be that person anymore, that is why my before is not up top. I won't give it to Alex. I want to transition into the new me, and I think the interview will hold me back.

Hi BBK,

I'm so glad that you are making some progress with your Dr.

So basically his communication style created a lot of misunderstandings, but he will take care of this for you. GOOD!!! Because I simply could not believe what was happening to you.

Your Dr. did a fabulous job on your tummy tuck and I have every reason to believe that the revision on your breasts will turn out just beautifully once he gets back to using his tried-and-true techniques. I'm sorry that you have to go through this additional step, but I'm sure you will love the results of the revision surgery.

I agree with your decision to not go through with the interview and I can totally relate to your wanting to "move on" from the whole obesity experience, as this is exactly how I feel. I will always be very happy to talk about the Lap Band and to offer advice and support, but just as I never wanted my life to be about being fat, I don't want my life to be about being "formerly fat" either. Therefore I think your decision to focus on your future, rather than your past, is very wise.

Too bad you couldn't play golf too. Still too soon after the surgery?

BBK: I'm glad you're feeling better about things. When do you see your PS again? If you still want him to do the revision, then I would go in there with a list of questions and perhaps some of your feelings written down, so you won't be intimidated. I would make sure you don't let him leave the office without being satisified with his answers and if he doesn't and tries to brush you off, I would have a response already prepared, ie. I will grab his arm and ask him to look me in the eye and I will tell him that I am frustrated, worried and anxious and that I want to be taken seriously and in order to feel better, that I need him to give me a time line for the repairs, what his contribution will be and what he expects me to pay. These are resoanable requests. If he tries to brush you off, then I would touch his arm again and tell him that your relationship is not working out and who would he like you to see for the revision? This doesn't have to be said angrily, just calmly and matter-of-factly. You're looking great!

Ya Dan, but the old ones just went to the floor out of a bra!

Way too soon after surgery! I am surprised all golfers aren't hot 6-pack packing! Every muscle in my stomach was screaming!

:thumbs_up::lol: That was funny!

At least it looks like you got to get out and enjoy some beautiful weather. My port incision still bothers my after two months. I cannot imagine what your incisions feel like trying to do something like golfing. You're my hero!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
