"How Long Did You Take Off From Work"

Recommended Posts

I was banded last Monday, 10/1, and I really expected to be back to work by the following Mon. I have been very sore in the port site, and have a lot of chest soreness. I called my boss Friday, and said that I would need another week off. Is this normal? I thought I would bounce back within a week like most people I've talked to.

I had my surgery on a Friday & went back to work on Tuesday. I could have gone back on Monday. I think it would depend on what type of work you do. I am lucky with my, I can move around but I don't do any lifting or bending.

I hope you get to feeling better real soon! :D

Thank you for your reply. I do feel a lot better now, but still have some sharp pains at times in the port area when bending. The soreness in my chest is a lot better too.

I was banded on 09-28-07 and am going back to work tomorrow, 10-08-07 and feel pretty confident to do so.

My chest soreness is now gone and my port does still kinda hurt when I bend over but I sit most of the day.

You need to do what you feel comfortable doing and if you are not ready by all means take care of yourself.

Good luck on your journey!

I was banded Oct. 5th and I am having a lot of port pain and abdomenal pain from the gas. I"m taking 2 weeks off from work although my boss told me I could have 3 weeks. I'm having a lot more pain than I expected. I hope it feels better soon.

I was banded on Oct. 3 and really thought I'd feel better than I do...lots of left side and chest pain. I booked a week off Wed. - Wed. but I think I might need the extra couple of days.

I was banded on Thursday, 10/4 and came back to work today, Monday, 10/8. I am still a bit sore, but sitting around the house was doing me NO good. I have a desk job, so I'm able to get up and walk around about once an hour. Sipping on broth right now and feeling glad I decided to come in.

i was banded on the 4th and am back to work today, the 8th. i am a bit more sore then i thought i would be, but i have a pretty easy going job for the most part. plus, i figured, if it gets too much i will just go home. i think it depends person to person, so if you need a couple more days, by all means, take them!

Like a lot of people here, I was banded on a Thursday and went back to work the next Monday. I was lucky to never really have any pain to speak of, and by Monday is was down to nothing but occasional discomfort. I am now 11 days post-op, and I can barely even tell I had the surgery, other than the fact I am 19 pounds lighter! :car:

My doctor's office told me I would get off for 2 weeks, more if needed. I feel fine, in fact I'm enjoying being home! I'm out on disability right now.

Me and my wife were banded on 10/5. We both have taken 10 days off to recover, the amount of abdominal and chest pain suprised us. It reminded me of when I had my gall bladder removed several years ago. Each day is getting better though/

By and far, this post has been very encouraging. I had my gall bladder removed lapriscopically a few years ago, and returned to work after a week. My surgeon told me to expect about the same recovery time. That is what I will plan for but also make sure that I can take longer if needed. Thanks everyone

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
