Weight loss 6 weeks post vsg

Recommended Posts

I am needing some constructive criticism on what I can do to improve my numbers on the scale. I am almost 6 weeks post vsg surgery and down about 30lbs. I know the song; I didn't put the weight on overnight so I can't expect to lose it all overnight..... I know that. I don't know why I am not losing like I should. The last 2 weeks the scale has not moved. I'm exercising about 3x a week at the gym, eating mainly Protein and still not losing. Any suggestions how I can get the scale to moving again. Also, will taking my Vitamin have a part in this too. I haven't taken any because the ones I got before surgery makes me sick now, so I'm waiting on my order to come in from another supplier.

Go but Flintstones Childrens chewables, take 2 a day sepearately. Cheap and they have the nutrients we need to supplement. Just came from 6 week checkup, a week late, im 7 weeks tomorrow and have only lost 23. They were happy with results said keep it up. Pushing me to get to 1,000 calories though. I normally get about 700 or so.

I just talked to my nutritionist today and she said that is normal. I have fluctuated within the same pound for 2 weeks and today I'm 5 weeks PO.

Breakfast an oikos yogurt, snack a slice of cheese or cheese stick, lunch cottage cheese or tuna package, afternoon snack more cheese. dinner normally whatever meat I cook for the family for dinner, plus the veggies or just cottage cheese again. For instance if I make them burgers, I'll just have mine in a bowl with tomatoes, pickles, and ketchup, no roll. Protein Shakes to supplement if I'm short on Protein for the day. Actually she told me to stop taking my Calcium pills today as I was getting too much calcium. I have to keep track and not get too much calcium in or I'll get I think she said calcium deposits or something like that. One less pill I have to take work's for me [emoji4]

Yes, it can get very frustrating. Keep doing what we are supposed to do and it will all work out in the end. Peoples metabolisms are all different and everyones journey is different. Hopefully the slower loss will help with excess skin, lol.

over ten percent of your entire body mass gone in six weeks is still very impressive!

How many calories are you eating and how much are you working out? It may be possible that your workouts might be sabotaging your weight loss at this stage if you are not consuming enough calories for your energy expenditure (there's a recent thread about this if you do a search). I'm 3.5 months out from surgery and have lost 50 pounds post-op - but over the past 14 weeks what usually happens is the scale will not move for 1-3 weeks, then will suddenly drop 2 or 3 pounds several days in a row. This has been a consistent theme since surgery and I've just realised that this is how I lose weight. I no longer use the word "stall" since clearly I'd have to go much longer (for a month or so) before I need to start getting worried (but hopefully that won't happen for a while). Your body too is still coming to terms with everything, it will start showing a pattern soon enough I think. Also, averaging 5 pounds a week is really good - that's almost a pound a day - just keep at it.

50lbs in 3 months is AWESOME!!! Now that is what I am aiming for. Its just a little scary thinking that my journey will be another one of my failed diets.

It all depends on your body structure. You may have thick muscle under the fat. Protein only strengthen the muscles. But you need. Your protein, so, you may have to double up on your cardio. I'm almost 4 weeks out, I lost 40lbs already with no exercise. But remember what I said first, it depends on your build and fat structure. Just stay on course, don't be discouraged, you will see the results you want.

Good point.... Thank you for the advice. I will try increasing my cardio to see if that helps. And Great Job on your weight loss success. You got this in the bag.

your weight loss is fine. Most people lose 15-25 lbs the first month, then about 10-12 lbs a month thereafter (well, it drops again once you get six or seven months out). I'd only lost about 23 lbs when I was six weeks out, and I've lost all my excess weight - over 230 lbs altogether. So you are just fine.

as for not losing the last couple of weeks - you're in a stall. You'll experience them again and again on your journey. Just stick to your plan, and the stall will break

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
