I am scheduled for June 26th and am wondering if it is safe to travel the next week. I would be packing shakes and broth and such, but I'm wondering if that is pushing myself too hard after surgery. I've contacted my Dr's office and asked if I could do my one week post-op that Friday, June 30th. With the next week being Fourth of July, I'd like to be away from neighborhood barbeques and the socializing. I'd be within a few hours of home in case I needed to go in.

For those of you who have been through it, do you think it's doable? I wouldn't drive. I'd just be the passenger and it would mainly be hanging out watching my son play.

I appreciate your advice. Thanks!

Check with your doctor but I bet he says no. But that is up to him.

I don't think it's a good idea. Trust me I know from experience. I traveled right after my surgery. It was spring break and I didn't want to ruin my husband an daughter's vacation. It was a 10 hour drive. It took us two days. On the way home. I asked my husband to drop me off at the ER. I ended up staying 2 days.

My Dr. has a 'travel policy' that they shared with us. I think driving within the state (less than ~5 hours) was allowed within a couple of weeks but you have to get out and walk every 30-45 minutes to avoid blood clots. So depending on how long of a drive you are planning that could make it a LOT longer. Plus it's so hard to predict how you will be feeling. You might feel totally fine and you might not. If you do go though be sure to stop and walk because blood clots are nothing to mess around with.

Thanks for the advice, guys! I had my EGD yesterday and asked my doc. You should have seen the look on his face. He told me that he **strongly** advised against it due to, as you mentioned, blood clots. He said if I were an hour away, it wouldn't be a big deal. I was worried more about the strain and hadn't given any thought to the clotting. It would only be for hours from home, but he prefers his patients not to travel for several weeks.

I'll have to put my travel plans on hold.

If it were me, I'd go based on how I feel, with Dr's orders in the back of my mind. There are plenty of folks who travel for Medical Tourism, traveling from Mexico to Canada less than a week after surgery on . I wouldn't do an all out high adventure vacation, but if I could go in a car, then relax and heal somewhere else, why not?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
