So one of the foods on my post-op list is baby food. Since I obviously haven't eaten Gerber since I was a baby , has anyone else bought it or planning to buy it? I bought a few jars today of beef, chicken, and turkey. Just curious if anyone else is eating baby food too?

Side note: ...and why does baby food cost more per jar than my cat's canned food?! Geez man! $1.39/jar for Gerber! Baby food shouldn't cost more than $1 for two jars. (Can you tell I don't have kids? )

I just started researching baby food. You are so right about the price! I was in Walmart last week looking at different baby food and prices. I see that they have organic types too. What amazes me that one little jar can have 13 carbs! I was like WOW! That's a lot of carbs in a little jar. I bought Gerber sweet potato&Turkey with whole grains. The taste is bland. Its ok. Low in sodium but has 6 grams of sugar. That seems like a lot too. I will continue to try other types and brands. I know that our taste buds will change after surgery so having a variety & different brands should work. I like the two pack plastic ones.

I noticed the carb counts were high too! Which I guess makes sense if you're a baby because the goal is to gain weight, not lose it. They're all pricey, not just Gerber. Beech Nut was a little cheaper but still...I bought a couple of the the two-pack plastic ones too. I figure baby food will be gentle on my stomach during the pureed foods week.

To be honest, I'm not sure. You may want to check with your dietician. I'm not on an all liquid diet and I don't want to give you wrong information.

I'm glad you brought this subject up since I was wondering if baby food is a good option for pre-op or even post-op when you reach the soft foods stage. I would think that baby food has a lot of nutrients in it, but it sounds like a lot of them are loaded with carbs and sugar. Boy, if that's true, Big Food sure starts hooking us young. How frustrating and ridiculous.

I would check with your dietician to see if it would work for you. It's on my list of pureed foods. The only ingredients on the labels for the veggies is, for example, green Beans and Water. The ones that are higher in carbs are the beef/chicken/turkey in "gravy" because they include cornstarch (hence the "gravy"). Again, my dietician's list includes the meat varieties. Since they're allowed, I'm going to try them along with traditional pureed foods on my list. While they ARE higher in carbs, the jars are quite small (2.5 oz, I believe). I'll be surprised if I even finish the jar in one sitting.

Don't eat baby food! It's gross, and making pureed food you will like without all the carbs is really easy.

Thank you for your opinion. Please don't take this the wrong way but respectfully, all of our tastes are going to be different post-op. While you may find baby food to be gross, it may be all that some others may be able to tolerate and, in fact, not taste so bad. From speaking with others who have already had WLS, foods that we previously thought tasted delicious became gross. And there are carbs in foods you wouldn't expect to find them in, particularly in some non-sweet green vegetables.

Thanks for the info. I am going to ask about it at my weigh-in today. I meant to ask last month but forgot.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
