Had band fitted 3 days ago and feeling a bit worried.....

Hi everyone

I had my band fitted by Dr Mignon in Belgium 3 days ago and got home yesterday. First thing to say is that the surgery experience was great! Great surgeon, great English speaking co-ordinator, hospital, hotel etc.

Now I'm home though I'm feeling a bit lost and feel like I'm not really understanding what's happening to my body in these early stages. I've been told liquid only for 7 days then 3 weeks on mushy food followed by a gradual return to solids, which is when my stomach pouch will form. At the moment I can't decide whether I'm hungry or not, I have a feeling like I have a brick in my belly and terrible wind! Is this normal?

It would be great to hear your very early experiences of your bands, which will hopefully give me some reassurances.

Thanks

Love Chelle xx :)

Chelle, first of all, congrats on being banded. And yes, what you are feeling is normal. Part of th feeling of the "brick" is our minds playing tricks on us since we know we have something new in there. I never had a feeling of being full when on liquids or mushies, but quit eating after 3-4 oz meals and protein shakes. I have not had my first fill yet,but once the fills start, thats when you will feel the band really working. Right now, your stomach is healing and getting used to the band.Walking helped me with the healing, along with protein shakes. Good Luck, hope this helped.....Dave

Absolutely normal. Do NOT feel lost and alone. Get out here, get a pillow, settle into your chair and do some extended perusing of this site and you will find that there is NOTHING that hasn't been covered, felt, experienced, etc. You've got hundreds of people who have been and are going through the exactly same thing you are....all over the world...and luckily we have this wonderful internet machine to brig us all together in our little cyber-room to have one big yak session about it...while never having to leave the comfort of our homes. What a concept! We are here 24/7 so welcome!

Ed

hi chelle,

i had my band fitted on 12 sept 08, congrats on ur band , i too am on fluids for 3-4 weeks, then on mushy. i too dont feel full but probably because with liquid it goes str8 through, i do have a lot of wind and feel as if something is squeezing me on left hand side but its normal ive been told to feel that way. and we wont feel and know full and feeling full till we on mushy and proper meals. but its all good at least we have made a start and things can only get better .. good luck hun with the progress. .xx denise.x:smile:

hi Chelle, You are experiencing something we all go thru and I found the best way to deal with the hunger is to use protein powder in your shakes and soups. As for the wind, let it rip! Better out than in. Walking helps shift it!
