I second what Nika said. Just hang in there! I had some serious regret my first week with all the complications I had, but every week has gotten better and better and so has my outlook. Don't beat yourself up too badly about not losing a bunch of weight yet. It'll come in time. I was very frustrated because I came home weighing more than what I did my day of surgery. Having to lose the "hospital" weight gain made the first week and a half frustrating, but once I got past that hump things were better.

I will say the better I do on my fluids, Vitamins, and Protein the better the weight seems to come off. It does make a difference. Keep your chin up!

I'm trying to feel my way through this site. I don't know about the rest of you but I find this site hard to update. I haven't been able to put in any of my activities/profile. Moreless, give my story. Is there any other newbies out there with these same problems?

I was sleeved on 1/17/17. My consult weight was 246, and my surgery weight was 231. I am now down to 216. Only 15 lbs lost since surgery day, and that is because I was stalled weeks 2 and 3. Didn't lose anything! I am now losing again, but it is at a rate of about 2-3 lbs per week.

Sleeved 1/28,
before pre-op diet 229lbs
SW: 216.5
1st week- lost 10lbs
2nd week- lost 1.5lbs
3rd week- gained 1lb [emoji22]

I am sooo bummed, I am able to keep all 64 oz fluids down, Protein 70+ a day, 10,000 steps or more/day, all Vitamins, plus 20-30 min cardio at the gym 5x a week...... what am I doing wrong!???

Sounds to me your doing everything right,your probably gaining muscle.



I hope ur right, but I am not even doing any weights... i am just really discouraged right now. My calorie intake is less than 1250 a day.

Came in this morning at 292.2 which puts me 26 lbs down since surgery. Tomorrow will be my 4 week follow-up appointment. Hopefully will be cleared to go back to normal foods. I am beyond burned out on Protein shakes, yogurt, and cottage cheese! I'm mixing things up as much as I can but have had to rely on those to hit my daily Protein goals.

All in all still doing pretty good. Really wanting to get back to the gym so hopefully doc gives me the okay for that as well.

You're not doing anything wrong. Hang in there! These stalls are so incredibly common! Not to mention you are starting out at a low weight so your numbers are going to be much lower than what you are probably seeing from others.

My pre-pre-op diet weight was 244, lost ten pounds that week, surgery weight was 234, and j lost an additional 24 pounds my first two weeks after surgery. But then I needed fluids, which put me up 5 pounds, and there I stayed for another four weeks!!! That was so frustrating to me. There were moments I thought I was going to be the first person whom weightloss surgery didn't work for. But then finally in the sixth week I lost 3 pounds, so slowly, down one, up one, down two, up one, down one, etc, until it settled at 212, which is where it stayed for about a week. It was very discouraging, especially because my weight at 2 weeks was lower and I felt like I could not get back to that. And then overnight, finally, I dropped four pounds. The stall is finally over. And believe it or not, what I did differently was I ate more carbs. Not a ton, but I did. Last night I had spaghetti for dinner. I mostly ate the meat sauce, but I did have some noodles too. So for me, it was about upping my carbs and my calories. Though that may not be your issue.

The point of my long rambling - when I was feeling my worst about not losing, when week after week the scale wasn't moving so early on, what reset my mind every single time was to take a look at how much I did loose. For me that was 29-34 pounds. Prior to surgery that would have made me so happy if I lost that in two months time, so here I am, a month and a half out, how could I not be happy? So you lost (I can't remember exactly) 12 pounds or so in three weeks. That's amazing! That would be great for one month's time! Just stick with it, get your Protein and fluids in, and it will happen. No choice but to happen, as much as your body might try to hold on. Be the stubborn one and win this battle with your body.

Thank you so much for the advice and motivation! I have went back to basics like liquid mostly. I contacted my Nutritionist and she advised me to quit the gym for now as long as I had 10,000 steps in a day.... ONCE AGAIN.... THE scale HAS MOVED... YAY !!! Down 5 lbs in 3 days, but I also started Miralax and my Period finally came as well.. ( sorry if tmi ) I am scared to do any carbs right now, bc I used to be a carbs person... btw congratulations on your journey!!

Hi all! I was sleeved 1/17. Pre-consult weight 357; SW 314; CW 280

I am doing MUCH better now that I can have actual food! liquids have been a constant challenge, but I keep trying. My 2nd week was my "buyers remorse" week! I got through it, hang in there those that are going through it.

I have joined the Y and am walking..trying to up my steps. I am really focused on following the program exactly, but if i do "slip up", (like the handful of movie popcorn I had this week) I don't beat myself up! (I have my stomach to do that for me!)

Officially 30 lbs down since surgery! Weighed in this morning at 288 lbs. On a NSV note I tried on an old pair of size 40 jeans last night and they fit. I can't believe it because I just got back into my size 42 only a few weeks ago. For the longest time I was thinking I'd never get back into any of my old clothes but finally starting to happen.

Hi all! I had surgery 1-24-17 and had a couple rounds of IV fluids on the first week and the 3rd week after surgery (where I gained 3-5 lbs each time). I will share I have had no previous experience w/ surgery or hospitals and had a lot of pain and dehydration after surgery (it's been tough for me).

My stats are: HW 224, SW 214, CW 203 so after surgery I'm down 11lbs but overall and down 21 lbs since Christmas.

I took measurements b4 surgery and at the 4 week mark I've lost 15 inches overall so it seems like I'm really losing a lot of size but not so much scale weight.

Couple questions for anyone experiencing this. How are you getting Water down b/c I literally want to throw up. I can eat 4-6 bites where I get hiccups and pain. Anyone else?

I've come to believe I'm a "slow healer" and might need to spend more time in each of the different food stages.

I'm Only being 5 weeks out of surgery but it seems like some are losing more, doing more, and healing quicker. (Sidebar-When I got fluids I had CT scan and all is well except for the fact that I can't get sufficient fluids or Protein down). Any feedback would be great! Thanks :)

I understand where your coming from A Creative New Day. I'm a month out from surgery and I can't get my Protein in as well. I seen my doctor this past Tuesday and he says I'm losing 2 pounds a week now. That's without get in all the Water & protein in. Now I just don't feel like eating. I'm forcing myself. Hang in there & try to get as much fluids in as possible. There are other ways to get in your protein besides shakes. Try yogurt, refried Beans, cream of chicken Soup. They helped me. Good luck

post surgery 1/16/2017.. down 46 pds.. But struggling with food.. Have no taste for anything.. Water taste horrible.. Living off oatmeal..soups.. fruit.. diet peach snapple.. eggs.. I can't eat more the 4 bites and its done. I get very hungry shortly after whatever I do eat and find myself so thirsty all the time.

Has anyone else had these issues.. also finding some fruits like oranges.. strawberry give me some discomfort and my stomach makes weird noises..

      On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
      Soooo I am coming to a realization
      of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

        Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

        Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

        I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

        I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

        BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

      Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
