Anyone know of Dr De Bruyne Chris

Thank you girls for the good wishes, and thank you Slinx for your sweetness xxx.

Bart put 4mls in for me when I went last week, and my band is tight, its a bit of a shock to the system when you cant eat much after 3 months of eating everything I wanted, greedy piggy I am.

I start Radiology soon, I said no to Chemo, too many side effects, and the doctor said it was ok if I didnt want it, wouldnt make much difference to my life expectancy, so what would be the point.

I know of a lot of people that suffered the horrible effects of Chemotherapy and still died, or got cancer again.

They caught mine pretty early, so the doc reckoned the hormone tablets I have to take for 5 years and the Radiation treatment should prevent it coming back.

I can only hope, meantime I have to get some weight off asap, as my daughter is getting married in Sarisota, Florida early May, so gotta look presentable lol.

Good luck to all the girlies having their bands soon, you wont ever regret it, it kept me going when I was putting weight on, I just thought 'ah well I'll lose it when I get a fill'. Take care all you other girlies.

hi freckels, haven't seen you for a while. im glad you are better now !

Hi everyone, wondering if someone could help me please. I haven't been able to eat a thing since Thursday morning and i'm not even hungry! I get constant acid reflux though and I can hear a sort of gurgling noise now and again, theres also a slight ache at my breastbone. Do you think I have food stuck or my band has slipped? I am so worried :( I can just manage to drink Water and I had some milkshake last night just to give me some calories but I have to force myself because I feel full. Has anyone experienced this?

Thanks xx

Hi, band is too tight, I've been suffering for a year with this (banded over 3 years ago).. Been treated for acid reflux for a year.. Did nothing.Ended up having tiny amount out under flouroscopy X-ray.. Where they could see that it is just over production of saliva gurgling about trying its hardest to help food down, you get air bubbles cos of constant swallowing too, so you'll burp . I was in pain in my shoulder and left side. No wonder acid treatments didn't touch it. But if left too tight for too long it can erode into stomach wall.. You really don't want that so suggest a smidgen out def. I was fine as soon as just 0.2 was took out. hope that helps. Good luck, Gillian x

Thanks Gillian, I was thinking about it being too tight but last time I had a fill was May 2011, would that make a difference do you think? I am going to persevere until after the weekend and if its not better I am going to go into A and E, hopefully they will be kind enough to do a defill cos my surgeon isnt here again until the end of April :/

I had a fill to 6 mls last may too..was quite tight And for some reason needed 3 small defills after up to now. I've now got 4.2 which is maybe not enough to make me lose weight, but I was really worried that I'd got band slippage/ migration/ erosion .. So last thing on my mind was weight loss. I've been advised to 'rest' it at this for a while.. I'm going to try small fill when I return from hols mid June. I blame myself for being too eager to get tight for weight loss.. Then starting to eat wrong types of foods (slider foods.. chocolate, curry sauces etc!).. When I ate normally was quite often sick.. I think I put too much stress on stomach.. Think it was my warning to slow down?!. But I know what you mean, it's a bit scary cos you think something's wrong.. I have my aftercare with WLS. They visit loads of cities in uk and offer emergency de fills to anyone if youre ever desperate. Im sure your band is fine just could maybe do with a bit of a rest.. Try to get your calories with Protein Shakes or nourishment drinks, if you're not eating. Are you having to bring food back up by the way? Gillian x

Ah do they do defills even if I never had my surgery with them? That would be brill if they did cos im thinking I may need a defill. I emailed my surgeons assistant but he usually takes a while to get back to emails so dont want to leave it to long, stressing is probably making it worse right enough! Yes when I eat something it comes right back up, feels like I have a fullness in my throat area and im constantly burping and making gargling noises. So embarassing in class lol. Thanks for your help x

Hi, yes I get a newsletter every month or so. And it said ' now offering emergency defills to non wls patients'I didn't have my surgery with them either but they travel to different venues up and down the country.and clinic 5 min drive from me at a private hosp once a month. I pay for yearly package, but am going on a 'pay as you go' now as don't need or want many adjustments. They are very professional n lovely too. Look up Www.wlsgroup.co.uk. Me, my sister and loads of others who went to chris have used her.. She was in with chris doing ops last year and they recommend each other. Where do you live? Theres prob clinic near you once a month.. Excellent advice too too..think it's £90 for adjustment, but sometimes BOGOF offers on etc. yes that gurgling does get embarrassing n loud doesn't it!.. It was bad when I was trying to get to sleep, and had to jump up sometimes as nearly choking on saliva. Yours sounds just the same as mine was, and it's a pain cos when you eat it gets stuck so you chuck it up, then I think it inflames around the band making it tighter for a bit. I hope you cope ok until you get a bit of a defill then, your problems should improve a lot then x

You have to be careful where you go for fills Fredrick told me that if you go to someone other than chris or a member of his team then the band is not covered anymore. Some places the nurses are not experienced if someone stuck a needle through the tubing instead of into the band then you band would be prematurely damaged. It best to stick with the aftercare package from chris's own team so they can monitor you. There in the Uk every thursday you just have to call julie tosh or the europe surgery office an they get you booked in. chris his team do fills for other people cos some surgeons even uk surgeons are not good with the aftercare and also rip people off. But if you had surgery with chris you should stay with him cos if anything ever went wrong he would look after you.

Thanks, I have emailed but he usually takes a while to reply. I am in Edinburgh and they are not here again until the end of April but I did wonder about the guarentee side of things. Might have to travel a bit further by the sounds of it. Hopefully he replies soon, im not in any pain with just drinking but I dont like the idea of not having food for days xx

Dr Chris actually recommends Wendy the fill nurse at Wls group..she has £5 million insurance and is an extremely experienced bariatric nurse whos been adjusting bands all day everyday for many years. She rates Chris, as he does her. He's happy with her aftercare. Email him and ask him if you're not sure. Her names Wendy Stubbs at wls if so. I wouldn't tell anyone to go or not go to any aftercare provider, but if you're having a problem, it's worth knowing that she will see anyone's patients in an emergency.. Even if they're not using them as their main aftercare provider.

Suppose Wendy's Wls clinics nearest to Edinburg would be Glasgow or Newcastle though, so may not be so near to you anyway x

Thanks Gillian, Glasgow is fine as its only slightly further away than edinburgh is from me. I emailed my surgeon asking if it was fine for me to go with them but think I already have that answer if he recommends her anyway :) I feel slightly better today, no tightness around my throat/chest but still not attempted to eat mushy or solids and still dont feel hungry :/ think a defill is on the cards x

Glad you feel bit better but it would prob hurt you to eat mushy/solids. Think you're right having small de fill. Cos the aim of the band is to eat less not it hurting to eat. but at least you've now experienced how being too tight hurts and lost some weight a bit quicker!.. Good luck x

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
