Well I don't know what you're reading but I personally went to the other site it's confusing as hell and if you don't agree with the mediators they simply just delete your comments without a reason.

What comic relief are you talking about I don't see anything funny on this site right now that would deserve being called comic relief. This is the site for people who want to come here and ask questions and hopefully get answers without being ridiculed. I guess I'm just one of the people who didn't drink the Kool-Aid and follow the so-called leaders I'm glad that I can think for myself and make my own choices

They definitely need a "view new posts" function.

Glad to see a group of core vets stick around. I feel like we certainly are available for specific questions.

I've been here for years and chose not to participate in sniping....or sexual innuendo... just not me.

Happy to come here to read supportive posts... I count on it!

It is a major help to me almost daily.

I hope others feel that way. And use this site selectively for their information.

You got me wrong. I didn't suggest that you should start posting at OH as well. I don't like the boards because I hate the format and a "view new posts" function would increase usability a whole lot.

Just because someone is "new" doesn't mean they give bad advice or know nothing.

Just because someone is a "vet" doesn't mean they know everything and give the right advice.

There are so many different reasons why people are successful or why they lost weight and kept it off. One size does not fit all.

For example, many eat low carb and are doing great. While others eat carbs and are successful too.

My Dr recommends tons of vegetables after the first few months in addition to nuts, seeds, and Beans with no artificial sweeteners and limited dairy (which is a staple for most of us post op)

For some that would be unheard of.

Every Dr and every person have different needs and programs.

While I'm sure many appreciate and welcome successful people's opinions, the world is not coming to an end and there will be others with good, sound advice.

Give people a chance. Let it go.

There are still some great vets with great advice around. There are even newbies with great advice!

Yes there are many that give good and bad advice. Just like many Drs have drastically different plans and advice.

Just be kind. You never know what that person is going thru.

Thank you vets for sticking around. I looked at the other site and prefer this one. Also I really don't care for drama.

Well said ssze. And you are correct just because a person has been around a long time doesn't mean they have all the answers. And I welcome a fresh view point

Paradise thanks for staying

I for one am happy here. Sure, I may joke around a little when responding to posts but it is never meant to be cruel or mean. It is supposed to help lighten the mood. Yes WLS is a very serious issue, but if you are serious 100% of the time it is no fun. This is a new life style for all of us. And just because somebody has had the surgery a long time ago doesn't mean that they know everything. I appreciate their input however if my surgeon or nutritionist tells me to do it one way I shouldn't be belittled about it.

The other site is confusing...I checked it out also. I personally love this site. Everyone has their on opinions and suggestions. I have been one to hold back on here in fear of being ridiculed and drug under a bus for asking a "stupid" question.

The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked.

absolutly @@Redmaxx I do the same, joke around and have fun. We use to have a lot of fun here. And rarely did any one get truly upset.

I for one own when I miss speak or even think i may have hurt someone's feeling. I will be the first to say Sorry and lets agree to disagree.

And all WLS patients should listen to their doctor.... Now if something just doesn't sit well with me... i will of course come here and ask and see what people have to say. But the most important thing is that i listen to MY body.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
