Hi guys

I unfortunately received bad news from the doctors after the screening to do surgery

And they denied me because I have a problem with stress eating

They will send me to a facility where I learn to handle stress without resorting to food and going to a nutritionist

After that if I'm still fat than I'm allowed to go back :/

I am really disappointed

After all the waiting and traveling I was so ready for the surgery and now it's denied

Does anybody else been denied surgery?

You must be so disappointed. As frustrating as it is, I don't think your doctors were wrong. As the saying goes around here, "you have surgery on your stomach, not your brain." So if your brain isn't in the right place to deal with life post-op. it's better to address that first. All you can do now is go through this program and hope you are able to change your relationship with food in a way that will allow you to have surgery in the future. I wish you much success! And I really am sorry about the disappointment you must be feeling right now. Don't give up hope!

Despite your disappointment, I think the doctors made the correct decision.

The surgery would not have fixed your stress eating compulsion. If you had it before dealing with that, you would end up with problems... not losing the weight, or losing but ultimately gaining it back up. Imagine how disappointed you would be then.

It's for the best. When you do have the surgery, you will finally be on the right mindset to succeed.

That's unfortunate...but, Keep the Faith...Nothing is easy!...There are so many hills and valleys to climb during preop ...it's almost worth a trip to a psychologist. But, Keep your eyes on the prize!...It will happen..when it's SUPPOSE to happen!

I'm so sorry to hear that! I'm curious...How did they determine that you're a stress eater? All of us have some challenges with food -- that's one of the main reasons we're trying to get approved for surgery! Did they determine it in your psych eval?

I'm sorry you are hurting. Work with specialists to get control over your stress eating. If you had weight-loss surgery and continued to stress eat, you'd be in a world of hurt.

Remember that you're not back to square one. You've just taken some serious strides to identifying and controlling your problem.

Good luck and remember we're here to help! You can do this!

Yes basically the psychologist got the impression that I was a stress eater because I was being honest

I think it's insurance issues than more so anything else

I'm actually pissed because yeah whoever is overweight has emotional issues that's why we want surgery!

That's certainly true about most overweight people having emotional issues surrounding food. But WLS doesn't correct those issues. If you don't deal with them pre-op, then you will have to deal with them post-op. And trust me, with everything else you are having to deal with post-op, you don't want to be dealing with significant mental/emotional issues at the same time!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
