New here, procedure set for Jan. 12, 2017!

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and getting ready for an Orbera procedure on January 12. I'm nervous, excited and a bunch of other emotions about this whole thing.

I'm also trying to find a good Protein source (the idea of pureeing meat is just gross to me). What Protein shakes or powders have you found to be best? What should I be stocking my kitchen/fridge with? I got a Nutrabullet for an early Christmas present to help me make smoothies to drink/eat. Anyone else have one of these? Just trying to get everything in order before the big day.

Also, one of the things I have been thinking about is what my relationship with food will be during and after this is all over. My family has always been very food-oriented. Not obsessed just we enjoy food. I'm worried that after this, I will no longer love eating. Like it will just become a mundane function that I will get no joy out of. :( Did any of you have those feelings? How did you deal with them?

Mine is a two week liquids with a surgery date of 1/19 for the sleeve. Every dr has different requirements I am finding so please check with your Dr on what is ok. Mine is pretty strict

For dinner I make my own shake muscletech whey protein with almond milk (ok'd by doc)

Then a sugar free non red popsicle.

I just had my Obrera balloon inserted Thursday, Jan 5th 2016. Kind of painfull. Thew up a lot the first night. Still nauseous on Saturday. I can't wait until this first week is done. I'm sure the pain will subside. I have a craving for miso soup. I'm going to order some and see how it goes. Otherwise I'm drinking coconut water; drinking no caff tea and eating fruit veggie popsicles I got from sprouts.

Note: This forum doesn't give a balloon option on the Surgery category under my picture.

I was pretty miserable the first few days, although not as bad as I had expected (based on what I had read in advance). After ~ 3 days I started to feel a lot better - hope you do too. :-)

Popsicles and Jello helped me a lot. Miso soup sounds like a good option, too. Just take your time easing in to soft/solid foods. Hope all goes well - good luck!!

Good luck.

I'm eating yogurt on my 4th day. Lots of Water. I even had an Americano espresson. Fruit with veggie popsicles. I'll grab some Jello today. Lots of liquids; coconut water; tea and water. Everything seems to be going much better than the first day I did this. I'm breaking in pretty well

Ok. Tomorrow is the day! at 2 pm, I will be me + balloon.

This pre-op diet is so hard. I couldn't imagine having to do this for weeks. I can barely manage three days.

I had a little meltdown last night. I was like "Im not going to be able to do this." So glad my husband was there to pull me out of my funk.

Hang in there ... it will get easier. Well, after it gets harder. ;-) You won't want to eat much so you probably won't feel hungry, but you will likely feel pretty crummy for a few days. Have Popsicles on hand, Jello and clear Protein drinks (if you can stomach them and they're readily a available). broth is also a good option - especially bone broth (given the high protein), if you can stomach it. Just remember - it will get better. Cheers!!

Thanks everyone. Wow. It been an eventful few days.

The hospital experience was frustrating and only added to my anxiety about this whole situation.

My doctor was 1 1/2 hours late. So I had to lie/sit there in a gown hooked up to IVs and monitors for longer than I should have.

Finally it was over and I was back home. Taking sips of Water and even a few bites of a popsicle. Then my stomach started hurting. I took a short nap but that didn't t seem to help. So the inevitable happened: I threw up.

The night was long. I kept waking up every 2 hours or so to take in some water and just walk around for a while.

Today has been better. I had some African Red Tea (yum) then later some chicken broth. So far so good. No more nausea or throwing up. Maybe tomorrow I can mange a Protein shake. Wish me luck!

Oh man. Im confused? How many calories should I be taking in right now. I can "eat" and drink all day long and still only manage about 200. How does everyone else manage this??

Hello all, glad to have found this forum! I had the ReShape dual balloon insertion on 1/17. The 36 hours after I got home were beyond awful. I was dry-heaving constantly and my entire abdomen felt awful. All of the meds that I was given to help would be vomited out as soon as I took them. My dr gave me anti-nausea suppositories and those really helped.

Right now, though, I have consumed very few calories and am finding it impossible to get many in. Over the course of the day so far I have been having a sip of Water every few minutes, tried 1/2 a popsicle, had a bite of Jello (ew), had a few sips of an ensure shake (per my dr) and gagged down a package of pudding. My abdomen just HURTS I've read many scary reviews online where people had the balloons removed because they couldn't tolerate them. I truly hope that doesn't happen for me!

It will get better. I have an Orbera and it took me until about Day 6 to start feeling better. Did you doc give you any meds for sromach cramping? The kind that dissolves under your tongue? Those helped me a lot with the cramping
