Can I lie - hernia op?

So I want to keep this private. And I'm so not a private person. My boss is also a friend so if I tell her I need some time off for minor surgery she may ask what for. I was thinking of saying a hernia. Your thoughts.

My last few days was extremely awkward. I think the boss expects me back at work sooner because it's just hernia repair. He keeps saying, "see you in 2 weeks. " Even though the paperwork says 1 month. And literally everybody (co-workers and customers) asked me what I was going for. I hate lying, ick!

But for the people who do know. Every single one has a story about how so and so got the band and gained all of their weight back now.

You're dammed if you do, and dammed if you don't.
