It's OK. Thank you. I had ppl private message me yesterday also. The thing is a lot of the vets have been on here for so long they are black and white and some have forgotten how hard it was in the beginning. I have to believe they mean well. Thank you!!

I read it all. It's fine everyone needs something to laugh at. I apologized this am. If people are still making fun of me it's fine... I had a really bad day yesterday if it brings humor, name-calling so be it. I learned a lot from it all. It is supposed to be supportive I agree.

Don't hesitate to vent on your journey..this process is hard for ALL of us..some handled it different but it doesn't make them better..I'm sure we all tried something we shouldn't have during our process ..no matter where in the process we are..some just in the closet with it..Best of luck to you..and keep on BP to read the answers you seek..

I had no idea what bugle was, apart from the obvious.

Learnt that these were chips; well, learn something new every day :D

Now I have to check the junk food aisle in my supermarket here .....

Warning: Satanic Entity who dares to have a sense of humour, in Rants and Raves of All places!

No name calling (except for myself :P ), no links to a thread, .......

Wow really? How is this post or most of the replies ok at all? You people should be ashamed of yourselves for making fun of another member. A person who is obviously new and was not given the information she should have been given. Instead of helping her you shame her? Bullying is not humor and it is not ok.

It's amusing to me at this point. I mean we are adults. ;) There is a difference between making fun of someone and humor. I apologized yet some people are still going...worse yet the OP was made after my apology.... I am ok. I have had huge support and several DMs. I appreciate the support and the people that get it. I went to Dr today and they set me up with everything I need. I went on this site for help because I didn't have the information. If people turn it into negative feedback then it's their issue. We all wish and hope for success. There will always be the people out there excited for an argument or are the experts that make you feel stupif. I am excited for my journey!! Thanks for the support!!!

Why do people keep coming to RANTS AND RAVES to complain about how rude we are?

WTF are we supposed to do when just about EVERYDAY some one who knows damn well they are supposed to be on liquids goes on line hoping to get permission from non medically trained STRANGERS to eat bacon, nachos, sausage, Swedish fish, spam and God only knows what else?

Beagles aren't Kosher. Bugles barely qualify as food.

I just can't with people really.

I am not by any stretch of the imagination a vet. I'm not even four months out yet and I struggle everyday to do right by my new normal - especially since, as they say, they did surgery on my stomach, not my brain.

However no one out there can possibly think for a second that eating any kind of chip during such a drastic attempt at weight loss is advisable.

This isn't joining weight watchers and going for an evening walk - this is committing to an extensive process of evaluation and undertaking major surgery.

I'll support people who want to lament the mental and emotional difficulties of wls. I'll support people dealing with side effects or unexpected lifestyle changes as a result of wls. Ill support people who hit road blocks. I'll Celebrate with people who are finding joy on the journey.

But if your eating the same crap that got you into this mess that soon after surgery you should just expect to get roasted. I don't really care what info you had or didn't have - some things are just common sense.

Pull yourself together and get with the program.

Ironically I didn't even respond to the original thread - but I saw an opportunity - as the proud owner of a meaty looking beagle for some levity and I grabbed on.

Perhaps my comment about the crunch was a little too much - but then occasionally I can be a little snarkier than I plan to be.

I'm not proud of that - I'll discuss it with my conscience later.

Different time changes for few of us, hence we can't all know about "the latest post, etc"

As I mentioned earlier, I was puzzled about bugles, not sure if we have it here in Australia.

At first I thought: "bagels", this reminded me of beagles that I adore, as well as pugs.

I am sorry if a certain poster or two feel offended, this was NOT Personal !!!

So, for goodness sake, have a bugle, bagel, beagle, whatever

and listen to the Buggles:

And to all the hangry people, put a smile on your dial, not everything is about you.

As for being called a "BULLY", I choose not to be offended.

Feel free to read all of my 1,000 plus posts and find one that I was "bullying" someone, especially a newbie ...

This anger defies logic. This is why most of the great people here are leaving or left already.

BP will be run by Newbies full of non-experience and lousy advice.

Merry Christmas to you all.

Same here... I never saw the post from the newbie, this post wasn't about a newbies question. But rather about the OP observation of how a bugle if it was spelled correctly, would be on the diet plan. And then her following thought processes as she was unfamiliar with the snack food Bugles.

It was hilarious until it was sidetracked by people saying it was rude and mean etc. I am thinking to myself, how in the world is this mean and rude? Then someone comes along and has to knock our building blocks over and link this thread to another thread.

People If we can't laugh at the mundane and inane we create a generation of people that are requiring "safe spaces". Oh wait to late. The only safe space is the play pen at your Mama's, if you can't handle the real world, go back to that while those of us that have figured out how to survive in a "mean" world continue to get the joke about words and the hilarity that the lack of knowledge can cause.

DS performed 11/28/16. SW/HW 380 lbs.

So I guess after gastric bypass surgery, I cant eat flock chips because they are fried???  They sell them on here so I thought I could have them. So high in protein and no carbs.  They don't bother me at all.  Help.

It's possible for a very high fat meal to cause dumping in some (30% or so) gastric bypass patients, although it's more likely to be triggered by high sugar, or by the high fat/high sugar combo (think ice cream, donuts). Dietitians will tell you to never do anything that isn't 100% healthy ever again. Realistically, you should aim for a good balance of protein, carbs, and fat each day. Should you eat fried foods every day? No. Is it possible they will make you sick? Maybe. Is it okay to eat some to see what happens and have them for a treat every now and again? Yes.

I'm not at all hungry on this liquid pre-op diet, but I miss the sensation of chewing. It's been about two weeks––surgery is in two days––and I can't imagine how I'll feel a couple of weeks post-op. Tonight, I randomly stumbled upon a mukbang channel on YouTube, and it was strangely soothing... is it just me, or is this a thing?

I actually watched cooking shows during my pre-op, like Great British Baking Show. It was a little bizarre, but didn't make me hungry. I think it was also soothing in a way.

How do you figure out what your ideal weight should be? I've had a figure in my head for years, but after 3 mths of recovery I'm already almost there. So maybe my goal should be lower?

Well, there is actually a formula for "Ideal Body Weight" and you can use a calculator to figure it out for you. This one also does an adjusted weight for a person who starts out overweight or obese. https://www.mdcalc.com/calc/68/ideal-body-weight-adjusted-body-weight

I would use that as a starting point, and then just see how you feel as you lose. How you look and feel is more important than a number.

      2. Clueless_girl

I did find different calculators but I couldn't find any that accounted for body frame. But you're right, it is just a number. It was just disheartening to see that although I lost 60% of my excess weight, it's still not in the "normal/healthy" range..

Tomorrow marks two weeks since surgery day and while I'm feeling remarkably well and going about just about every normal activity, I did wind up with a surface abscess on on of my incision sights and was put on an antibiotic that made me so impacted that it took me more than two hours to eliminate yesterday and scared the hell out of me. Now there's Miralax in all my beverages that aren't Smooth Move tea. I cannot experience that again. I shouldn't have to take Ativan to go to the lady's. I really looking forward to my body getting with the program again.
I'm in day three of the "puree" stage of eating and despite the strange textures, all of the savory flavors seem decadent.
I timed this surgery so that I'd be recovering during my spring break. That was a good plan. Today is a state holiday and the final day of break. I feel really strong to return to school tomorrow.

Now that I'm in maintenance mode, I'm getting a into a routine for my meals. Every day, I start out with 8-16 ounces of water, and then a proffee, which I have come to look forward to even the night before. My proffees are simply a black coffee with a protein powder added. There are three products that I cycle through: Premier Vanilla, Orgain Vanilla, and Dymatize Vanilla.
For second breakfast on workdays, I will have a low-fat yogurt with two tablespoons of PBFit and two teaspoons of no sugar added dried cherries. I will have ingested 35-45 grams of protein at this point between the two breakfasts, with 250-285 calories, and about 20 carbs.
For second breakfast on non-workdays, I will prepare two servings of plain, instant oatmeal with a tablespoon of an olive oil-based spread. This means I will have had 34 grams of protein, 365 calories, and 38 carbs. Non-workdays are when I am being very active with training sessions, so I allow myself more carbohydrate fuel.
Snacks on any day are always mixed nuts, even when I am travelling. I will have 0.2 cups of a blend that I make myself. It consists of dry roasted peanuts, cashews, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, pistachios, and Brazil nuts. This is 5 grams of protein, 163 calories, and 7 carbs.
Breakfast and snacks have been the easiest to nail down. Lunch and dinner have more variables, and I prepare enough for leftovers. I concentrate on protein first, and then add vegetables. Typically tempeh, tofu, or Field Roast products with roasted or sautéed vegetables. Today, I will be eating leftovers from last night. Two ounces of tempeh with four ounces of roasted vegetables that consist of red and yellow sweet peppers, sweet potatoes, small purple potatoes, zucchini, and carrots. I will add a tablespoon of olive oil-based spread, break up 3 walnuts to sprinkle of top, and garnish with two tablespoons of grated Parmesan cheese. This particular meal will be 19 grams of protein, 377 calories, and 28 grams of carbs. Bear in mind that I do eat more carbs when I am not working, and I focus on ingesting healthy carbs instead of breads/crackers/chips/crisps.
It's a helluva journey and I'm thankful to be on it!
