Port has flipped

Recommended Posts

I went in for my first fill today (I am 30 days post-banding), and the doctor discovered my port has flipped.

He was manually able to tilt it enough to do the fill, but man did it hurt!!! The needle/fill itself was nothing, but the flippin of the port was enough to make me not want to get a fill. I stuck it out, but have been very sore ever since.

I asked what could have caused this and he said that it depends on how the abdominal walls lie and the port sits. He did continue to say that this is the first time he has ever seen a port flip so close to surgery.

I am to go to my fill next month and see if the port is still flipped or has gone back into position.

How many of you have experienced this problem and was surgery your final solution????

I will gladly do another surgery than have to go through the manual flipping again!!!

My port has tilted to an odd angle, and that was 2 months post-op that they discovered this. This week I went for another fill, and they had such a hard time getting to it, they decided to do an operation to move my port. Then, under contrast to make sure the band was working right they realized my port or the tube above the port leaks... when they injected contrast saline into it, it just went all over in my body.

So, instead of the port moving surgery, they're going to replace my port and/or the tube.

But, (and I felt different than you, I'd rather they kept poking and poking to get it, than to go under surgery again) they wanted to do a quick surgery to move my port to another location.

My port had flipped when I went in for my first fill at 8 weeks out. I was also told that there are many different reasons that port can flip. My surgeon went in through the original port scar and flipped it back. Then at my next fill another 8 weeks out, my port was tilted. It is now flat with the right side up and have not had a problem since. I was worried that since I am a side/stomach sleeper that might have caused the problem but I was told that wouldn't have caused it. My port has migrated up to just under my rib cage and it will hurt in the morning if I have slept on it all night so I am going to see if the PS can move the port down lower when I have my TT done next year.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
