Just liquids the day before surgery??

Just wondering if any of y'all (and yes I'm from the south) had to only have Clear liquids the 24 hours before surgery. I am having a hard enough time with the pre-op diet. I can see why they would want people to do it for the gastric bypass, but it doesn't make since for the lap band. Anyway I am going to do it. Just wondering if any of you had the same directions. 2 days to go:whoo: Elizabeth

(on a personal note: I think it should be agaisnt the law for men to lie about being married. If they say they aren't married and it turns out they are they should have to go to jail for a very long time...:D)

Elizabeth--the reason they want you on a liquid diet before surgery is that your liver will shrink. If your liver has too much fatty tissue, they could call off the surgery. That was a risk I was not willing to take. Also, it gives you a jump start on your weight loss and also shows the surgeon your determination to stick to the program.

i was on clear liquids for 10 days before surgery. my liver shrunk like he wanted it to and he didn't have any problems getting to what he had to get to. it was worth it. after 3 days or so i got so used to it i was ok with it. i also thought it was great to do that to prepare for eating habits after surgery.

stay busy during your liquids, do and eat only what your dr. permits you to... and keep your mind on the big picture down the road... cuz everyone told me to keep my eyes on the prize and that's the truth!!!!!

The clear liquids before surgery, I was told are to clean out your digestive track so that they will not have to take care of that for you, the morning of the surgery. I was allowed protein shakes for breakfast and lunch but nothing but clear liquids after 1pm and then nothing by mouth after midnight.
