DeyonBush, don't be scared...I was and everything is going really well for me thus far. I was sick right after the surgery with the flu, but all I've had is some gas pains in my stomach and am not having any trouble eating things. I got banded last Friday and I am already eating (very slowly) mushy foods.

You'll do great!

HI - I was banded on Monday the 12th. It has been a very interesting walk the first few days. Changing those internal habits will take some time. I find myself thinking about the foods that use to comfort me. It is a daily walk keeping the end insight. So when are you going to be banded?

I was banded on the 12th also.... S far things are going well, I am sore of course, some gas pains. No nausea as the Dr gave me something to take for that. All in all the surgery and recovery so far has'nt been as bad as I imaginied. I was very scared, and even started to cry and doubt myself in the room getting ready for the surgery. But I am glad I did it, and I shouldn't have let myself worry so much. I was in and out before I even knew what happened.

I know what you mean! I was in a mental panic when the doctor put the mask over my face. Good thing I didn't have long to consider anything!!

Hi all, I was banded on the 7th and it went so well. Now I am sore over my port area. This was to be expected but is anyone else still hurting over the port after a week?:P

Other than this I have had no problems.

My port stayed sore longer than any of my other incisions and it turned out that it was infected so I'm now on antibiotics. Have you been in for your one-week post op visit yet?

I was banded 1 week ago on the 8th. Feeling better now but was supposed to eat some yogurt and cottage cheese yesterday and didn't get much down and it didn't set well at all. Now today I don't want to eat anything and didn't even want my shakes. My desire for anything is gone and no desire for anything. Has this happened to anyone? Do I just keep trying? Everybody talks about being hungry and I can't stomache the thought of anything!!!

My doctor told me to look for a spreading red band around the incision. I already had the beginnings of it when I saw him -- darker red at the incision and lighter red around it. He said if either spread, to call him. Well, the next day, I noticed that the lighter red had spread. He asked me if it was swollen (no) and if I had a fever (no.) But he called in the antibiotics anyway. I didn't get them until Monday evening and by then, it seemed more clear to me that it was infected, especially now that the soreness and redness has almost completely gone away.

You might give the office a call, describe how it feels and what it looks like and see what he or she says. Good luck!

I was banded on the 5th, I haven't been sore since the 5th day after surgery. Then yesterday my mom who is a nurse was feeling my port area and located the port and now I'm a little tender. I think that it just takes a while to completely heal. Just don't mash on it, or you might make it sore again. I go in 20th for my post-op appointment. I am going to ask about this.

Hope your port feels better soon!!:biggrin1:

Hi all... I am back! Too much to go back an read right now on how everyone is doing and what's been going on. So I just wanted to log on and let everyone know that I am finally doing much better, I was banded on November 7th, last week, I finally feel good but the incisions still hurt too bad to sit in a regular chair right now for more than 10 minutes or so. That's why I decided to take another week off work. I go back on Wednesday next week, by they I should be back on here chatting it up wih everyone and back in the grove of things. Take care everyone!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
