Check out GENEPRO, I believe it has 30 grams of Protein, tasteless, and add it to the mashed potatoes. I add it to V8 and no taste whatsoever.

Your Dr having you on stage 3, and people just moving to stage 3 because they are food addicts with no self control are 2 different things. Don't worry.

Thanks. I realize I'm a food addict to some point. It never was a comfort thing for me or to hide my feelings, it was a social thing, a family thing for years. I don't think I have ever been truly hungry or craved in my life til I had a hysterectomy in June for cancer. I was already on my wls journey at that point, but 2 weeks after when nausea left, I craved like crazy. I was so thankful to have started this process and looked forward to gaining this tool because I became a bottomless pit it seemed.

I'm on the standard for all my drs patients. Decided to continue my liquids a bit longer, cut more carbs out and up the Protein.

I have not had my surgery yet. I am waiting to see if the insurance would mail me the authorization form. But I am very confused at how so many people like you have read and watched on YouTube talking about trying stuff that I was told are restricted for life. It makes me wonder why pay all this money for surgery if you are going to just risk it all? If you try this or that you are only going to try even more and before you know it you may find yourself in the same predicament as before the surgery.

Im no doctor but please put yourself and your health first and follow the dr's order.

I had the bypass in 2003. I did not follow directions , lost only half the weight I needed to. Gained every lb back. Got disgusted and did not do anything about it until this year. They scoped me and then told me that my pouch was relatively normal but my anastomoses was dilated greater that 10 cm. That's bigger than a new born baby's head. I was able to eat everything and anything. Not large portions because of the pouch , but I became a bottomless pit. I had a revision done 3 months ago. I've lost 50 lbs and am now in a plateau. But I can shake it off. I am very careful to pay attention to how I feel when eating. I try very hard not to eat things that aren't going to injure my pouch, soft food. I know it's never too late to make fresh starts and no giving up this time. Take care of yourself as if you were your own child. Follow instructions to the best of your ability. Your body underwent great trauma to make yourself healthy. Don't damage your operation results , talk to your doctor and tell him/her what's been going on and seek instructions to help undo any damage you may have done. You have gone through a lot, way too much to get nothing for your efforts. Good luck to you and remember that You Can Not eat anything and everything. Good luck to you and also to me.

There isn't really much that's "restricted for life" with bariatric surgery, other than the fact that you want to make a conscious choice to start eliminating sugar and saturated fats, and focusing on complex carbs rather than simple ones. If you have gastric bypass, sugar is always going to be a problem and likely to cause dumping syndrome, so that's one thing that you do end up having to deal with minimizing for a lifetime, anyway. But that's a good thing, no matter how you slice it.

But eventually, you will be able to eat relatively normally, you're just going to be eating phenomenally less than before. You will actually be blown away by how much less, honestly...I have been.

Agreed. I'm looking forward to the mini cupcake I'll have at my birthday next year vs. The cupcake cake I ate a large chunk of this year. Tiny slivers at holidays.

Starving ourselves through diets didn't work. This is a lifestyle change - Friday is no longer pizza night, but maybe I share a piece with a friend down the road. (Much further down, I'm 5 weeks out lol)

This is like learning to walk all over again and I'm a huge fan of it.

@@carmenlw3,

Congratulations on your surgery!

I would first suggest that you bring up all of your concerns with your surgeon. Ask why you do not feel any restriction and whether that is something to worry about. Also ask all of your food questions: given that you do not feel restriction, should you stick to the diet or go ahead and eat other foods.

My gut instinct would be to stick to the diet! It can’t hurt, and it can help a lot. There is the possibility of doing real damage with solid foods as your surgery wounds are in the process of healing. You don’t know until it is too late, so it is probably best not to take chances.

There is also a benefit to sticking to the prescribed diet for another reason: for discipline. This is a chance for you to completely re-establish your eating habits. It is a good time to get used to following the plan exactly as intended.

Just one other thing that might be helpful (or not). I noticed you said you ate chicken and pudding, and can’t remember what else. I don’t know if that is true or not; maybe you just said you don’t remember because you do not want to share (and that’s okay). But if it is, I would strongly recommend that you keep a food log! It will help you stay on track now and in the future. It can also help you learn a lot about your food choices, like which ones are high in Protein and low in calories. It’s easier to see patterns when you write the information down (or enter it into an app).

Good luck!

Day 5 out here and I can barely swallow my pills and am no where near goal with fluids. I'm surrounded by real food and can't even imagine eating anything. It's important to get your head in the game - just remember how sick you could get from a lousy bite of food.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
