I understand I have only told two people. My husband and a friend who has serious health problems due to weight. But no one else. I am also getting a hernia repair so I am telling everyone that is why i am having surgery. Its sad but I know the people in my life including my best friend would drag me down. Hope you find the right support for you.

I was afraid to tell my mother. She's 89 and still "perky" but she has spent years judging my food choices and second guessing me on my health.

What happened was I showed her my binder of info I was given, she was AMAZINGLY supportive and shared with me that she personally knows someone who had recently had WLS.

I'm not sure if my sister approves or not. She hasn't really said anything directly to me. But she doesn't really struggle with weight at all

Telling my (skinny) SIL and (very skinny) MIL were literally the last things I had on my to do list before surgery on 10/25. I finally broke down and sent them an email 2 days ago and it went better than expected. I would love to have kept everything secret but just not possible with 4 kids and living on the same dead end road as my ILs.

@Kblanc.... I told everyone else I was having gall bladder surgery as well because I did have my gallbladder removed. It's really none of their business, but I felt I needed to say something to my job and other folks as the reason I was going to be out.

I have a lot of people in my life that cannot gain weight, husband, sister, daughter ect. They eat all day and dont gain weight but are not healthy by any means. And they JUST DON't get it. So instead of the drama Only my hubs knows. And i had to really train him on weight ect. I think as a overweight person my ego is so deflated I just do not need the negativity.

I had initially decided to NOT tell my MIL.. She is very thin, judgemental and my biggest critic. It was my mother who told her (gee, thanks Mom).

She knew but never said anything until a week before I went in. We were talking about my weight (a usual topic around the table at her house) and she said she thought I had surgery when I went out of town a few weeks before. I was surprised that she would even be thinking about it but she seemed to be ok with it so I broke down and told her.

To my complete surprise she has been my biggest supporter. She even bought bariatric shakes and has been drinking them and said she is proud of me.

Who ever would have thought??

My MIL is very fit too. She loves outdoors stuff and it an avid biker. She is a really nice person but her whole side of the family is very thin and active too. I always felt like she has been embarrassed to have an overweight DIL. And it doesn't help that my hubby started developing a little bit of a Buddha belly since we got together 3 years ago (he loves my cooking, what can I say??). It was so nerve wrecking to tell her but I was so surprised by her support. It was nice going in being honest with her and having her supportive thoughts heading into surgery on Tuesday.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
