People that not happy for you

Recommended Posts

Hi there I have a band and am converting (hopefully) to a sleeve. I only told a couple of people that I am going for a sleeve. I knew my sister's would not approve they were told after. Weight loss is an journey that does not stop. Ignorance well if all the diets worked everyone would not be overweight.

It doesn't have anything to do with surgery. I have an associate, downgraded from friend, that is really in their feelings over my weight loss. They don't even know I had surgery but they did have surgery, and weren't that successful and it is like my success is a slap in the face to them. And it is mainly that I have been able to achieve something they have not, and I am not even done or a success yet in my mind. They keep shading me over and over in every way possible.

Some people will never be happy for you and it has nothing to do with you, just with their own issues and insecurities.

I feel like I have lost my best friends after the surgery. Maybe someday they will be able to see past themselves and be 'friends' again, but for now I have learned who I can trust and although I'm not really secretive about my surgery, I don't share details at all. I know it is just their own insecurities that make them the way they are, but at first I took it personally.

My best friend is not supportive either and constantly challenges me about the sleeve. She's even gone as far as saying she's unhappy because her eating habits will have to change when she's with me, even though I've told her she doesn't have to.

I know this has nothing to do with me and everything to do with her and her insecurities but it's still sad.

I agree! It is very sad! It upsets me that my friends would have rather seen me in poor health and miserable! I guess sometimes even though I know it is a problem within them that I still take it a little personally! Those that truly love me and want the best for me see how my quality of life has changed and they are supportive, it's just sad that the people we thought were best friends couldn't be too!

When you change your life for the better, in any way (new job, new house, whatever), you find out who really loves you. That is one of the things that has made my life richer. Learning who really loves me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
