Slow weight loss

Recommended Posts

I'm only on week 2 and I'm slowing down considerably. My goal is about 2 pounds a week and I'm hitting it. If I slow down I will increase exercise and evaluate what I'm eating closely.

I lost weight at a snail's pace, but I eventually hit my goal, and you likely will as well. For me, there were benefits for being a slow poke. I lost a minimal amount of hair, and my skin actually looks tighter (primarily from becoming more toned) rather than loose. Hopefully you'll have those benefits as well, and it will make the slower loss very worthwhile long-term. It won't just fall off, but if you exercise and are careful about what you eat you will lose weight. Keep track of what you consume if you aren't already doing so, and experiment with increasing (eating too little can actually slow down weight loss) or decreasing your calories and see if that makes a difference. Working out more often could help as well. Best wishes!

Ditto what Clementine Sky said,

I wanted slower weight loss so my skin wouldn't get too saggy and maybe pop back better. I also have not lost hair yet (knock on wood). I am probably a slower loser because I did not ramp up my exercise routine. I was in school....that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. ;-)

Anyway, I am 6 months post sleeve this week and I am just going to start doing more to tone up. I didn't want to do extreme exercise workouts and not be able or want to keep it up. I didn't want my body to think I had to do all that to lose or maintain. I do take all my Vitamins, but it took me 2-3 months to get in my Protein and Water. This has worked for me, but might be different for others.

I also am in week 6 and I 've been on a 6week stall for about 2to 3 week. Finally, this weekend I started to loose again. I was down 48 between before sugery and before my stall, but then nothing. In the last 3days I 've lost 3pds in them. I guess my body had to get use to for first amount lost.

Just stay with your diet and exercise and it will move again.

I am a slow loser on the scale as well.....but I am not working out heavily...yet.....I have also lost no hair and have had a few stalls.....but even if the scale doesn't move much.....my body changes.....so don't only go by the scale, which early in I was bad for.....I am still new to this and learning as I go.....but even if the scale isn't moving my clothes are falling off .....so that is a bonus I guess.....I figure my body just needs time to get use to the weight loss then I lose another 10 to 15 lbs and it takes a break again.....some people it seems to "fall" of but I am not one of these people.

Thank u all for sharing your experiences, I have incorporated a workout something I wasn't doing at first, the 1st 2 days I went up 3 lbs but I eventually lost them, I eat healthy, consume Protein, and take my Vitamins. Im having a little problem getting the recommended amount of Water in tho.... U all are right I haven't really experienced hair loss and I don't want saggy skin so I am content as long as the scale continues to go down!!!!

I'm loosing small too. But I just keep going. I thought the weight would just drop off and was really depressed about it. But I know now I have to work for it. scale numbers does not mean you aren't loosing, you body is changing, my clothes are bigger on me. Work on Protein and Water, it really helps, I know it's hard. I get frustrated too.

But look at your inches, lm losing inches, an people tell me they can tell, but I'll like to see it on the scales also. But from what I hear that will come also. I do exercise, ride bikes an walk. I was a chronic dieter and messed up my metabolism with diet pills all my life. I have slow weight loss as well, I started weight lifting and elliptical machine 3 x week and the other days I walk. Keep the faith, my doctor told me by I wasn't as obese as other patients, so I slowed off and on.

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
