Between this comment and the thread with the person who ate a pork chop 7 days out, I just can't even...

Let me think on this and resurrect in 2-3 weeks.

One thing I noticed reading through many threads, the people who have hit goal weight and have been around for a long time, are generally the most kind and helpful. In every forum, there will always be those who crave to be "popular" and part of the "in" crowd. I didn't care for them in high school, and I don't care for them now. Their humor is almost always directed to hurting someone or being condescending.

As far as the tacos question, there are some programs that allow incorporating normal foods at 21 days. Corn isn't inherently bad, and one can get taco shells that are not fried. The problem is that the Protein first rule should be the first and more important rule in all your meals. It is something to keep in mind as you progress through your journey.

Sounds like a fine idea if it's on your surgeon's plan. I was still on mushies at three weeks, so it would not have worked for me. :D

I'm going to ahead and quote my original answer to this inquiry. You know, the second post in this thread -- my Initial answer the OP.

If it's hard to read, I'll sum it up: if it's allowed on your plan, have at it.

I could not care less if I'm "popular" here nor is there an "in crowd". Most vets have left because our input is consistently attacked. Sorry I'm not going to call everyone "friend", "send up prayers", or give bad behaviors the warm fuzzy thumbs up of approval. And no, I won't help you justify eating what landed you here in the first place.

I think your health (your being general/collective) is worth more than that. It's a shame that a few people choose to villianize some of us for that and and even bigger shame they choose to not to value their health as much as they should.

If that makes me a bad person, slap your label on me, hit the ignore button and move on. I won't be bullied or chastised into condoning poor dietary choices.

Tacos are an excellent idea at three weeks out.

Of course, KNOWING BETTER, I'm only getting ONE Taco Bell grande. And maybe a mexi-melt. Ooh!!! How about those nachos??? Those look yummy!!!

When your surgeon moved you to real foods, he/she absolutely meant all the gooey, cheesy, fatty, greasy, creamy, rich, carb laden crap you could handle.

Have at it!

Can we do something more interesting than tacos for this round of 'What Not To Eat'? Don't any of you people ever go through the Dairy Queen drive-through? How about a big old Blizzard or something??

DQ is always filthy.

Let's get a double slice at the Cheesecake Factory.

After all, it does have cheese' in it (protein') and it is creamy so that's soft, right?

Throw in some ice cream' as dairy and we're set!

Newbie on this site, but thanks for the laughs ????

My small input...

There is a reason why it's a good idea to diet before your sugery. Learn to read the labels. Use an app if counting is too difficult. Don't try to get people to agree to your bad choices, mess yourself up if you want, but please don't let others get bad influences from you. If more than one person tries to tell you that you are doing something wrong/stupid, it might be a good idea to listen and think again.

Thanks.

Here is a true story from my dieting life:

My first nut, some years ago, when I first realized I need help, was like a late night show:

Nut: (looking at her computer) Here are some pamphelts...

I: (suprised to see the nut is bigger than me) Thanks, but I need real advice.

Nut: (still looking at the computer) Read the pamphelts.

I: (getting annoyed, try to shock her into looking at me) I eat icecream every evening, is that ok? (I didn't and I don't, but needed a reaction)

Nut: (still looking at the computer) That's good, you are getting some Vitamins D and Calcium.

I leave the room, never to return...

My current nut is way, way better ????

Nilla

Wait? A newbie NOT chastising us for smirky, snide, disingenuous, derogatory, mean-spirited, condescending and inflammatory responses??

Hath HELL frozen over??

And I always like Nilla wafers with my ice team and pudding.

Welcome Nilla.

Hi SDC, yeah, I guess you can guess that tacos at 3 weeks wouldn't be a good idea. Do talk to your nutritionist and/or surgeon when you can start incorporating solid foods on your plan. If there is anything one will learn on this forum is that there are huge differences between surgeons/nutritionists/people opinions. Some go low carb, others prefer balanced... blahblahblah. hehe

Once you're cleared for solids, may I suggest some healthy taco recipes. I had the band for a long time (been a member since 2010), and often enjoyed healthy tacos. I just recently revised to the sleeve due to issues with the band, so I'm still in the pureed stage. So like you, no tacos for me. :)

However, in the future, here are some ideas. Hope this helps.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
