How long does this last?

Recommended Posts

Hi all, I'm two days post op (surgery on 8/8) and I'm feeling ok but I am struggling with a few things. The first being the horrific gas pains up in my shoulders. I literally feel like I'm being stabbed every time I roll over. I have been walking, taking gas-x, etc. but it isn't really helping. The second being my stomach hurting every time I drink something. The best way I can describe it is really bad hunger pains anytime something hits my stomach. It only lasts a few seconds but it is really making it hard to get all of my fluids in being so uncomfortable. Does anyone remember having these issues and how long they last? I'm hoping it isn't much longer.

Each day gets better. Hang in there. My surgery was 2 weeks ago. It is a challenge but it does improve. Hope you feel better. It was hard for me to get the required shakes and liquid down. I did it but it was a challenge. Not so bad now. Looking forward to my mushy diet in a week. Getting really tired of Protein Drinks 4 times a day. Lol. We will get through this!

Did your stomach hurt every time you drank something? I know I'm only two days out so I'm not too surprised but just hoping it doesn't last too long. I'm worried about getting dehydrated.

Really try to sip sip sip to get your liquids in. You dont want to end up dehydrated in the hospital. My stomach felt sooo full it was hard to do. I did it but it wasnt easy. Yes my tummy did hurt fir awhile. I found Water tiny sips often helped me get the amount in I was supposed to get. It was a challenge for a few days. It just takes time. I felt like it was a full time job sipping drinks. I promise it will get easier. Feel free to message me if I can help or if you need to vent. Believe me...I understand. I just keep thinking long term this will all be worth it! Good luck sweetie!! Sending healing wishes!!!

When walking swing your arms up and around. It worked for my gas pains.

It will get better! The gas pains took a few days to get moved out though. The first week or so it was uncomfortable when I swallowed anything also. Just remember things are swollen up in there still, that will get better as well, just take small sips.

For the gas pains ...walk walk walk. Also deep breathing helped me. The more you walk the faster you will feel better. Do lay down unless you're sleeping.

The difficulty you're having drinking will get better but you must ensure you're getting in your Fluid no matter what....try warm broth.....try ice chips, sugar free popsicles...sugar free Jello...warm tea.....room temp Water...,ice cold water....you just have to experiment to find what works best.

For me each day got better and by day 6 I was much much better. Hang in there!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
