A place for bandsters in their 60's

Help!!! I was banded four weeks ago and it will be 2-1/2 weeks until I get my first fill. I am very hungry and am unsure what/how much I can eat until my first fill. What did any of you do during this interim period? I have lost 18# and I don't want to gain any of it back before my fill. Would appreciate any words of wisdom and any menus/foods/amounts you could send me. Thank you so much.

Mduvall - !st what stage of food are you on - with my doc it was 10 days each of full liquids - mushie - soft - regular. So for me at your stage I was eating soft/reg food - I could eat any where from 1 to 2 cups of food per meal - I would eat oatmeal (weight control) for Breakfast - Veggies & Protein for lunch - same for dinner - with sf pudding and fudgecicles for Snacks ... I am just always surpirsed when people don't know what to eat - my doc gave me a binder will a list of all foods to be eaten during each stage etc...

Good Luck...

Hey that's great Marilyn. That means you made it through the liquid stage! Just give me a call anytime.

There are a lot of foods you can have during the mushy stage. You don't have to worry about stretching your pouch at this time because you have no fill and the food will go right down to your stomach.

Either call me or send me a private message. Next week, Tues. Dr. Tersigini will be speaking at support group. There won't be a meeting the week of Thanksgiving.

Hi, Indio Girl and Denise....Yes, sorry, I do have a list of foods, but I wasn't sure how much I could eat. Your telling me that you eat 1-2 cups per meal is helpful. I am so afraid of gaining back the weight I've lost before my first fill (in 2-1/2 weeks). By the way, my doc had me on four weeks of Liquid Protein, which I've just finished up....so glad to be past that!! Thanks for the information...didn't mean to sound like I didn't know what to eat...I just didn't know how much and how that worked for you. Marilyn

Marilyn

I understand your fear of gaining it back and OMG 4 weeks liquid

I am proud of you - I don't know if I could have done that 10 days of each was hard enought - but you should be quite content with anywhere from 1 - 2 c max and it will really depend on what it is you are eating..

It seems like a lot of doc' don't give their patients alot of nutrional (sp) counselling - with mine I had homework - plan a meal and count protein grams - but this is a good thing not bad - it helps to be succefull...

My best to you - Janet

Where are all the bandsters in their 60's? I haven't seen any new posts on this thread lately.

I am struggling to lose more weight. I think it will be easier after the holidays.

Yeah, it's been really quiet here lately! Guess everyone is busy with the holidays... Thanksgiving week. I'm holding steady, but not really losing right now. Was able to do some Water exercise this week and maybe that will help.

Happy Thanksgiving, All!

Hi everyone,

I just discovered this thread for 60ites and it's good to know there's a place to go to for my age group. I haven't been banded yet but I have my first appt with the Dr next week. This Forum has been so helpful in answering questions and even helping with things I never thought of. You are all such and inspiration and I will be checking back here frequently.

Hi FoxyGramma: Just wanted to let you know that we're all still out there. I've been busy and a little fed up (no pun intended) because my nurse practitioner who does the fills cancelled my monthly appointment (again) and it'll be another two weeks before I see her again, and I need another fill! After five months, I'm still not adjusted, still struggling with too little restriction. Whew! Glad I got that off my chest. Have a wonderful and good-food-choices Thanksgiving everyone.

Gravey vs Cranberry Sause - choose gravey 80 c per 1/2 cup compared to 180 for the same serving of cranberry sause

Ham vs turkey vs prime rib

Turkey -skinless white 193 c per 5 oz dark 260 c

Hi Foxy Gramma and all you other "60ites",

I am here and just had my third adjustment today. I am losing weight slowly but surely. I have lost 35 lbs since I gained my new "band friend" in August. I have been able to eat just about everything as long as I eat slowly and wait a bit between bites. I hope this continues because it makes life easy and causes no problems for me.

Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Trish

Gosh, I thought I posted on here but read them all today and can't find my post. I'm 67, 4 weeks post surgery, no fill and no restriction. I'm eating about the same as before surgery except for breakfast I'm having slim fast instead of the bagel I used to have. I have lost a little weight every week so it must be the breakfast. I can hardly wait for my 1st fill.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
