It was about the 40 pound mark that I treated myself to a few new shirts and pants for work. I didn't get new bras until about 75 pounds. But I'm cheap, lol. I started pricing my closet around 60 pounds, but we also moved making it easy to do.

I agree on pants first. I was a 44" waist and didn't buy new pants until I was down 50 lbs. I bought 40's, 38's, and now 36's.

I was a discount store shopper and never spent more than $25 on pants.

I did TOTAL PURGES at goal. Gave away eight 55 gallon trash bags full of clothes.

Looking back at my pre-wls weight gains, I never averaged more than 2-3 lbs a year, so I figure I'm 5+ years away from 38's worst case!

I'm in preop phase, but a friend of mine goes to second hand or consignment shops on her lunch hour at work. She says she loves it.

After a 70 lb loss from my highest weight, I'm about to do a major closet purge for a consignment sale. I'll probably use my profits to buy items I need for heading back to work in the fall. I plan to be thrifty (Goodwills and the like) until I get to goal.

Oh, I forgot to mention, keep at least one thing that you were wearing at your heaviest. It is very affirming every now and then to put it on to remind yourself, where you were and where you are.

Isn't there some sort of a clothes swap site? Where you keep rotating close sizes with others so you don't have to keep spending money on new clothes?

Thank you but it's not a link to that site. It's an old thread from 2003

Yes, the thread of discussion started some time ago, but you will notice that there are postings from this month and as recent as a couple of days ago. You could start a thread on what you need or are willing to sell. Just a thought.

I'M 2 months outand have just replaced my bra. I have already started purging clothes. Thankfully my closet ranged in sizes so I haven't had to buy much. I have clothes I can give to a local woman in mostly size 16w.

I'll have a few items to donate soon, which I hope to do before the end of December for tax reasons.

I have a number of shirts in my next smallest size, and a couple rachet belts to get me through a while. But my next size is 22" dress shirts and 3xlt shirts/polos, and no pants under my current size. I'm asking for clothing gift certificates from everyone for Christmas and probably will again for my birthday. My plan is to visit thrift and consignment stores first and then move onto major retailers. Unfortunately, they're usually slim pickings for men until you're in 2xl/17.5" shirts and pants in the lower 40s.

I'll keep my wardrobe sparse until I reach goal--6 or 7 dress/button-up shirts, 3 or 4 polos, 4 or 5 pairs of dress pants/khakis, and 2 or 3 pairs of jeans.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
