Pain around large incision

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved last Wednesday 7/13/16. All of my incisions are doing well, except the largest one. The actual cut looks fine, but all around it is still SO painful. Like a tennis ball sized area surrounding it. It hurts to stand up straight, to sit or lay down, when I walk too much, and ESPECIALLY when I cough or hiccup (even with a stomach binder and pillow pressed on it). My surgeon's office is closed on weekends, so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to ask about it, but I was just curious if anyone still had this much pain around the big incision 4 days out?

I'm 6 days post op now and I'm experiencing the same thing with my largest incision and the one I had my drainage tube in, not sure it's normal or not I just assumed those were where the most trauma took place

See, I never had any drainage tubes... is that normal? I mean like I said, the actual incisions all look really good, there's just the severe pain around the largest one.

I did not have a drain tube. From my readings here on BP, it sounds as if most of us don't get one.

As for your incision, I would call your office to see if they have an on-call nurse. Usually they do, even if the office is closed. Any discharge from it? My largest was/is also the most bothersome, but it is healing. a little redness is normal due to the trauma of surgery, but if it starts to spread that's cause for concern.

I am no medical professional, but it doesn't hurt to reach out to your surgical team at the available time.

Thanks, ya, there isn't any discharge or redness. No pain on the actual incision, just almost bruise like pain around it. I'll wait until tomorrow morning to call the hospital, since it's not making me bedridden or anything. Just super bothersome. Thanks for all the responses!

Everything you said is exactly what I am experiencing and we are sleeve sisters :)

My biggest one is killing me. It's like the others aren't even there. It is pretty swollen and painful but I think it's normal. The nurse told me only if it gets red all around to be worried. Still if you are going to call tomorrow would love to hear what your team says...

Not sure, I know years ago when my mom had bypass surgery she came home with drainage tubes but that was back when they had to cut you open, but I was sleeved here in Germany so I think that practices are just different than in the states they keep you for 5-6 days after surgery, my first failed attempt at the surgery in the states where Dr somehow punctured my colon I was sent home after 2 days, so I'd say they are just much more cautious here

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
